عزَّ إِلَهُ العَالَمْ

وذلَّ ابنُ آدمْ

The God of the universe prevails

While the son of Adam declines

يُخَاصِمُونَ ربَّهم

والرَبُّ لا يخَاصَمْ

They dispute with their Lord

But the Lord does not dispute

وحاكَموه للنَّهي

وعِنْدَهُ تُحاكَمْ

And they judged Him as forbidden

While with Him they are judged

وقائلٍ لِمْ كَانَ ذا

وقائل لِمْ لاَ ولم

One asks why was He thus?

Another asks why not this or that?

قد سَلِمُوا لو سلَّموا

وقد نَجا مَنْ سَالَمْ

They would have been safe had they submitted

He who submits is saved

ومدَّع بأَنَّه

في العِلْم لا يُقَاوَمْ

And he claimed that

In knowledge none can contend with him

رأَى الزَّمانَ حَادِثاً

فقالَ قد تَقَادَمْ

He saw time as emergent

So said it's now outmoded

وما دَرَى بأَنَّه

لِفعْلهِ قَدْ صَادَمْ

But he did not know that

By his acts he collided

يُفْحِمُه وَيدَّعِي

بأَنَّه قَدْ كَاتَمْ

He silences yet claims

That he has hidden wisdom

يا حُسْنَ ما جاءُوا بِه

لو تمَّ لكِنَّ مَا تَمْ

Oh, how fine what they brought

If completed, but nothing's complete

إن يرج إلا حربه

ما تم إلا ما تم

Unless his war ends

Naught's complete save what's complete

مَاتَ الهُدَى ما بَيْنَنا

فكلُّنَا مآتِمْ

Guidance died amongst us

And we're all houses of mourning
