I gave though they were stingy, and kept faith though they betrayed.

My loved ones - yet I'm not so indebted as they professed.

My joy appears in my gaze when they show themselves to me,

Just as my heart revealed itself when first they came to light.

Living seemed vile when they went away from me,

Just as, when they were disgraced, the noblest became base in my eyes.

They were equitable in killing my soul, and did not transgress,

They were true in possessing my heart, and did not betray.

Yes, they abandoned and opposed and held aloof and avoided me,

They forgot and were harsh - yet in all this they were not to blame.

And the verb of appellations is derived from their noun:

So comrades betrayed, and neighbors deserted.

In me is the sweetness of the eyes, the saliva, and the ornaments -

In me the gazelle, the branch, and the bright moon are gathered.

I am beauty embodied, the perfect full moon,

I am the gazelle, the tender branch, the sapling luxuriant.
