Beware the swords of India in Turkish eyes,
For they're drawn only to proclaim deceit.
And beware those slender spears for they
Are made for stabbing, doubt not this feat.
If you're inclined to pleasure or music bright,
Else you've exposed yourself to certain defeat.
Many a tender gazelle have spent their night
And left behind a bed smelling sweet.
Fair beauty has unified my heart in love,
By God's grace we are free of all deceit.
Our state, if told, they'd claim pure lies,
Nothing between us save kisses discreet.
When his sweet lips give me sips in seclusion
I'm between paradise and soft bleat.
And by his kiss he introduced me to the king,
Saying "This is my mouth, the royal stamp's seat."
Oh sweetness of that honey in the sap!
Oh beauty of that pearl in brace discreet!
They poured between them wine of generosity
So their vessels wept all night, discretely.
Their drink-cups laughed merrily together
At their great delight and joy complete.
A singer increased their delight with verse
Of fine flowing lines, well-shaped in feat.
