My passion's pattern in love refined

In loving, my rapture has no defined creed

Will you give me over to parting and estrangement, my destroyer?

While your love for me amid people widely spread

I stood still as my eyes flowed with tears

With the coquetries of love orderly arrayed

Does accord not delight sans dismay?

A cheek exulting in my death with love

While proof in meaning for me precisely laid

When his glance warmed, cold his saliva ran

And the fire of my fervor for him kindled

The water of beauty sighed in joy

And to hearing from him words polished played

A gazelle, kohl-eyed, consummate in beauty

But in nature a wily fox portrayed

Since lovers beheld his army of beauty

With war on cheeks for him they pined

The glance in drunkenness by him enslaved

For lovers, O my boon companions take heed

How often said I when an enchantress glanced at him

Lo, it is sorcery, a door well assayed!

How many a night spent in Mosul’s company

Where my tongue began to chant and sing his praise

I performed the rites of love for him yet never

Saw another of people for him keen
