1. أَمَورِدٌ يَا نَاظرِي أَم وريدْ

    فكن شهيداً إِن نَوْمِي شهيد

    My wishful heart, you restless roamer

    Each day in love with someone new

  2. قد قُتِلَ النَّومُ وعاشَ الأَسى

    وزَلَّ بل عِمادُ العميدْ

    Though your love's image is my amulet

    My love-sick devil makes me his disciple

  3. وبي وإِنْ بَان الصِّبا صبوةٌ

    شبَّ بها الشَّيخُ وشَابَ الوَلِيدْ

    Since you captivated my eyes with your bow

    My tears in your beauty are peerless

  4. خليعُ قَلْبي لَمْ يزل هَائِماً

    في كُلِّ يومٍ بحبِيب جَدِيدْ

    Your red lips, your callous heart

    Are thorns and iron through and through

  5. وأَغْيَد صُورتُه عُوذةٌ

    لأَنَّ شَيْطانَ غرامي مَرِيد

    Your mouth a string of polished pearls

    Though fools call you a bursting bud

  6. مُذْ كَسَر الجفْنَ أَصَاب الحشَا

    والقوسُ مكسورٌ بسهمٍ سدِيد

    The critic's the fool, the ignorant wise

    And the libertine a righteous guide

  7. وجْنَتُه الحمراءُ مع قلبِه ال

    معرِضِ ذَا خزُّ وهَذا حَدِيدْ

    I hunt gazelles, not to catch them

    But so that the gazelle hunter provides

  8. وثغرُه درٌّ نظيمٌ فكَمْ

    يَظْلِمُه من قال طَلْعٌ نَضِيدْ

    My icy heart melted for your face

    Yet still the sun melts solid ice

  9. فالعاذِلُ العَاذِرُ والجاهِل ال

    عَاقِلُ فيه والغَوِيُّ الرَّشِيد

    You're seen, but from afar - that's how

    The sun is seen from far and wide

  10. عَهْدِي بِغزْلانِ الفَلا مِنْ الفَلاَ

    تُصادُ لكن ذَا غَزالٌ يَصيدْ

    My golden one, you have undone me

    My precious tears, you are denied

  11. جليدُ قَلبي ذَابَ مِنْ وَجْهه

    والشَّمْسُ ما زالَتْ تُذيبُ الجَليدْ

    With the memory of you we have wasted away

    Eye for eye and hand for hand

  12. يُرى ولكن من بعيدٍ نَعم

    كذلِكَ الشَّمْسُ تُرى مِنْ بَعيدْ

    No watchman of mine was absent

    No guard of mine inept inside

  13. يا ذهبيَّ اللَّونِ أَذْهَبْتَني

    ويا فريدَ الحسنِ دَمْعِي فَرِيدْ

    My guard and warden hugged me close

    Then spread his arms to catch his bride

  14. بِذكْرِكُم بِتْنَا كَما نَشْتَهِي

    عَينٌ لعينٍ ثُمَّ جِيدٌ لجِيدْ

    That time has passed and gone, it faded

    Praise God, who never fades or dies!

  15. ما كان فيها شَاهِدي غائِباً

    عَنِّي وَلاَ كَان رَقيبي عَتِيدْ

    You made my hair turn white before

    Its time, for your beauty multiplies

  16. بات رَقيبي حَارِسي بَعْد أَنْ

    مدَّ ذِراعيه لَنا بِالوَصَيدْ

    To me Eid day was seeing you

    Now Eid day is a day of chiding

  17. ذاك زمانٌ قَدْ مَضَى وانْقَضَى

    وبادَ سُبحانَ الَّذي لاَ يَبيدْ

    Jewels to me are gravel stones

    Branches are but dry date fronds

  18. وشابَ رَأْسِي قبلَ أَن يَلْتَحِي

    مَنْ حُسنُه في كُلِّ يوم يَزيدْ

    You made me old, apart from where

    That lofty dome was fortified

  19. وكان يَوْمَ العيد لي وجهه

    فصار يوم العيد يوم الوعيد

    King Abdullah's, where earth's kings

    Are slaves, and he their glorious guide

  20. وأصبح الجوهر عِندي حصىً

    وصارَت الأَغْصَانُ عِنْدي جَريدْ

    Longing, I've strayed to where I'll gain

    A lofty verse that's verified

  21. شَيَّبني بُعديَ عَنْ مجلس

    أُسِّس لكِنْ بالعَلاءِ المَشِيدْ

    I'll reap the fruits of soaring hopes

    To profit and gratify the soul inside

  22. مجلِس عبدِ اللهِ ذَاك الَّذي

    تُرى مُلوكُ الأَرضِ فيه عَبِيدْ

    Gather the clan and gain the heights

    Then in bereavement petrified

  23. غبتَ فيا شَوْقِي إِلى وَقْفَةٍ

    فيه أُوَالي بالمديحِ النَّشِيدْ

    To the Sanctuary I must wind my way

    Of glorious grace and kindness magnified

  24. وأَنْقَعُ الغُلَّةَ مِنْ طَلْعَةٍ

    تُفيدُ رِيَّ القلبِ لِلْمُستَفِيدْ

    The Master, dragging his robes, confused

    For Master, son of Judge besides

  25. وأَجْمَعُ الشَّملَ ونيلَ العُلاَ

    وبعده صِرْتُ الفَقِيرَ الفَقِيدْ

    God humbled him till how many lions

    Became his slaves, though they were dignified

  26. وأَبلغُ القصدَ بِقَصْدِي لَه

    وإِنَّه للقصدِ بيتُ القصيدْ

    Time has divided his enemies in two

    Destroyed or exiled far and wide

  27. هذا مُرادي مِنْ إِلهي وَمَا

    يكذِبُ في الله مُرادُ المُريدْ

    They were mountains, now but pebbles

    Nay, they've become his harvested chaff outside

  28. لو أَسعدَ الدَّهرُ بما أَرْتَجي

    من قُربِه كُنْتُ كَنَعْتي السَّعِيدْ

    Enough he's guided by God's will

    He walks, nobles surround his side

  29. لابدَّ أَنْ أَطْوِي الفَيافِي إِلى

    جَامعِ شملِ المكْرُماتِ البَدِيدْ

    Yet in his glory he's alone

    His wealth resembles none beside

  30. الصَّاحِب السَّاحبِ أَذْيالَه

    تِيهاً على الصَّاحِب وابْنِ العَميد

    He returns gifts, no sooner given

    Than asked, with increase he provides

  31. ذلَّ به الجبَّارُ حتَّى لكَمْ

    مِنْ أَسدٍ أَضْحى له وهْو سِيدْ

    Who seeks provision, gains far more

    For his guests, open-handed, dignified

  32. واستعبدَ الخلقَ له أَنَّه

    ذُو خلقٍ ليِّنٍ وبأْسٍ شَديدْ

    Some seek less from his abundance

    Others seek more, which he denies

  33. والدَّهرُ قد قسم أعداءه

    قسمين إما هلك أو شريد

    Giver of a fleeting world

    To one who spurns it, satisfied

  34. وكانوا جِبالاً ثم عادُوا حصىً

    بل أَصْبَحوا منْه كَحَبِّ الحَصِيدْ

    You give your creation succor

    And your elect all they confide

  35. يكْفِيه أَنَّ اللهَ سُبحانه

    أَجْرى المقادِير عَلَى مَا يُريد

    I complain to you of yearning

    Fires, around my heart they're tied

  36. يَسير وَالسَّادةُ منْ حولِه

    لكنْ تَرَاهُ في عُلاه وَحِيدْ

    I'm the hunter who still has not found

    Water, though each time he's tried

  37. ففي عُلاَه مَالَه مُشْبهٌ

    وفي نَداهُ مَالَه مِنْ نَدِيدْ

    Since you left I've tasted death

    I had not thought it would betide

  38. يُعيدُ ما يُبدِي نَدَاه فَما

    تَقولُ قَدْ أَبْدأَ حتَّى يُعيدْ

    Buried, though not in Egypt's soil

    But deep in the Sa'id's countryside

  39. يُعْطِي الَّذِي يَطْلُبُ منه الَّذِي

    يُطلَبُ مِنه وَلَديهِ مَزِيدْ

    Had I not felt this, I could not have borne

    To string a verse, even if I tried

  40. يُجيد ما يُعطيه مِنْ جُوده

    لِوَفْدِه فَهْو الْجَوادُ المُجيدْ

    For my mind binds my thoughts

    While to left and right dullness resides

  41. يسأَلُه الإِمساكَ من يَجْتدِي

    مِنْه ويَستَعْفِيه مَنْ يَسْتَزِيدْ

    But my dear friend inspires

    The tongue-tied fool to waken thoughts inside

  42. يا مُعْطِيَ الدُّنيَا لِمَنْ أَمَّه

    ثُمَّ يراهَا كالعَطاءِ الزَّهِيدْ

    So I sang lightly, generously

    For he was generous, so I vied

  43. أَنْتَ الَّذي السؤدُدُ مما تُني

    ل الخلقَ والعلياءُ مِمَّا تُفِيدْ

    Every verse I wrote in praise of him

    Joined, harmonized, and unified

  44. أَشْكُو إِليكَ الشَّوقَ فَهْو الَّذِي

    لِنَارهِ بَيْن ضُلوعِي وَقِيدْ

    I lodged him in the abodes of glory

    Each verse a palace fortified

  45. وإنَّني الصَّادِي الَّذِي قَدْ رَأَى ال

    مَوْرِدَ لكِنْ كُلَّمَا رَامَ ذِيدْ

    For him, whom God has guided

    As he desires, never denied

  46. قد ذقْتُ طعمَ الموتِ من بعده

    ذلك مَا قَدْ كُنتُ مِنه أَحِيدْ

    Had fate allowed what I desire

    His nearness, I'd be gratified

  47. وصِرْتُ مدفوناً فما مَسْكَني

    في مَصرَ لكن مَسْكني في الصَّعِيد

    To the Sanctuary I must wind my way

    Of glorious grace and kindness magnified

  48. لو لم أَكُنْ أَشْعَرَهَا لم أُطِقْ

    نظماً لبيت ولو أَنِّي لَبِيدْ

  49. لأَنَّ هَمِّي مُقعِدٌ خاطِري

    وعن يَميني وشِمَالي قَعيدْ

  50. لكنْ لُهَى الصَّاحِب يستنطِق ال

    معجَم عِيّاً ويُذْكي البَلِيدْ

  51. فقلتُها طنانةً جودةً

    لأَنه جاد فَلِمْ لا أُجيد

  52. وكُلُّ شِعْرٍ قلته في مَجْدِه

    شَدَا بِه الشَّادِي وسَارَ البَريدْ

  53. أَسكنتُه منه قصورَ العُلا

    فكُلُّ بيتٍ منه قصرٌ مَشِيدْ
