وَقَدْ كُنْتُ كاتِبَ جَيْشِ الأَمي

رِ وَمُجْري الأُمورِ على رَسْمِها

I used to be the scribe of the emir's army

And execute affairs as prescribed

وَها أَنا تاجِرُ سُوقِ الْمَحَ

ال وَسُوقُ كَفَى باسْمِها

Yet here I am, a peddler in the street market
