1. The wearer of the sash—

    captivated me when he appeared.

  2. His smile is white daisies,

    and within it are honey and wine.

    with his lithe figure when it sways at ease.

  4. No blame falls upon him

    when he takes possession of souls.

  5. His braided sash-cord cries aloud.

    Leave me to him; I shall wander mad with love.

  6. His languid glance

    has made the gazelle and the white antelope jealous.

  7. How many a snake-bitten one has he healed—

    dusky-lipped, his saliva like Tasnim!

  8. Then he swayed and began

    to drink without cease the wine of joys.

  9. O young gazelle of the dune,

    your delay is torture to the ardent lover.

  10. You are my physician,

    and union with you in love is healing.

  11. Grant union to the sorrowing one;

    there is no reproach in union.

  12. Heal the wounds

    with one visit from you, my friend.

  13. By passion—this is my oath—

    and love’s creed is what I swear by:

  14. may no affliction cling to you;

    and I kiss your smiling mouth,

  15. and I heal the pain

    with a kiss from you—and I hover.

  16. For meeting is permitted

    to one who never divulges the secret.
