1. يا بَريقَ الحَيا وَيا عَذبَ البا

    نِ لَقَد هجتُما لِقَلبيَ وَجدا

    O flash of life-giving rain, O graceful bā—

    —n tree, indeed you two have stirred passion in my heart.

  2. زِدتُماني شَوقاً لظبيٍ غَريرٍ

    حين أشبهتُماهُ ثغراً وَقَدّا

    You have increased my longing for a guileless gazelle

    when you resembled him in smile and stature.

  3. هَكَذا كُلُّ مُغرمٍ إِن سَرى البر

    قُ وهزَّ النَسيمُ باناً ورَندا

    So it is with every lover: when the light—

    —ning courses and the breeze stirs bān and fragrant rand,

  4. يَستجدُّ الأَشواقَ وجداً وَيزدا

    دُ بِتذكارِه على الوَقدِ وَقدا

    he finds his longings renewed in ardor and grows ever mo—

    —re aflame at remembering him—fire upon passion.

  5. لا أَخصُّ النَسيمَ والبرقَ والبا

    نَ وإِن جدَّدَت لِشَوقيَ عَهدا

    I do not single out the breeze, the lightning, or the bā—

    —n, though they have renewed a covenant with my longing.

  6. كُلُّ ما في الوجود يُصبي المعنّى

    بهوى ذلك الجمالِ المُفدّى

    Everything in existence entrances the tormented lover

    through love of that beauty, for whom one would sacrifice oneself.
