1. بَدرُ الدياجي اِحتجَب

    لَمّا تجلى بَدري

    The full moon of my longing was veiled

    When my full moon appeared

  2. من تحت حجب اللِثام

    ما لاحَ بَرقُ الشَنب

    From beneath the veil's folds

    No lightning flashed from the lips

  3. من نحو ذاكَ الثَغرِ

    إلّا وَدَمعي غمام

    Toward that mouth

    Except that my tears were clouds

  4. لَمّا بدا من كثَب

    في عَصفر والخمري

    When it appeared from the cheeks

    In yellow and red

  5. يهزُّ رمحَ القوام

    ناديتُ وا من عتب

    It shook the spear of the column

    I called out in complaint

  6. ها قد وضح لَك عذري

    فخلِّ عنك الملام

    Oh look, my excuse is clear to you

    So cease your blame

  7. هَل لِهَذا البَدر ثاني

    في بَديعات المَعاني

    Does this moon have a second

    In the beautiful meanings

  8. إِن شدا بين المغاني

    بالمثالِث وَالمثاني

    If it contends in songs

    With triplets and octaves

  9. حسنُه فديتُه غلب

    كلَّ الحسان الغرِّ

    Its beauty, I ransom it, surpassed

    All the beautiful singing

  10. وَالغانيات الوسام

    وَراح يبدي العجب

    And the ornamented songs

    And it began showing wonder

  11. لما تَبدّى يُزري

    بالبدر جُنح الظلام

    When the darkness' wings

    Appeared with the moon

  12. كَم قد حوى من جمال

    هَذا الرَبيب الغاني

    How much beauty

    This singing bud contained

  13. وَكَم جمَع من فُنون

    له في المحاسن مجال

    And how many arts

    It gathered in the charms

  14. ينيلك الأَماني

    إِذا بدا للعيون

    To reach the wishes

    When it appears to the eyes

  15. لكنَّه لا يُنال

    إلّا بِقَلبٍ عاني

    But it cannot be attained

    Except by a suffering heart

  16. وسفح دمعٍ هَتون

    حبُّه لِقَلبي سلَب

    And a downpour of tears

    Its love robbed my heart

  17. وأَفنى صدودُه صَبري

    وَزادَ قَلبي هُيام

    And its rejection destroyed my patience

    And increased my infatuation

  18. آه من دانٍ ونازح

    بالأَماني والمنائح

    Oh, the one who dwelled and migrated

    With wishes and laments

  19. كَم أماسي وأصابح

    من هَواه كلَّ فادح

    How many evenings and mornings

    Have I been crying desperately for its love

  20. إِن تمَّ منه الأَرب

    بعد الجفا والهجرِ

    If I attained felicity from it

    After estrangement and separation

  21. وَطولِ هَذا الغَرام

    حزتُ الهنا وَالطرب

    And this lasting passion

    I would seize joy and rapture

  22. وَنلتُ أَعلى القَدرِ

    بعشقه والسَلام

    And attain the highest degree

    Through its love and well-being
