O homeland of Meyya abundant with twisting valleys,

Greetings from the spring of life and my tears,

The breeze of the meadow softly blows its tail

In the summer lodges of intimacy within your fences and squares,

Had you not spent the night bereft of your companions

I would not have lamented every desolate abode,

I have not forgotten your era and the beloved neighbors

And life was pure in your fruitful plains,

Days when I do not heed the blame of any blamer

Even if the youths’ clamor is louder,

Where the gazelles roam with their young

And the meadow blooms bright and its riverbanks are sweet,

Your branches bend over me affectionately

When I stay under them bending as a wet nurse,

And the leaves amid the tender branches are compliant

Singing with a view of bliss and hearing,

How many times did I spend the night intoxicated

I swore to inaction, neither awake nor aware,

    My heart persists divided

Between passion for a turban-wearer and one in a veil,

Frivolously obeying the youths in love

For my moonlike resplendent and sparkling beauty,

I am not saddened that I was the first lovesick one

For the beauty of a fawn and a doe in a cloak,

My prime and my chastity lead me

    To the devout ascetic's chastity,

By the winding valleys where yearning has sway over me

And the one I love accompanies me,

I have not forgotten him though the separation neighs between us

With lamentations as he bids me farewell,

If discontent has flared up in my heart over parting with him

It is because he has nested in my ribs,

I unwillingly endure barrenness away from him

    And nature overcomes acquired behavior,
