She arose, turning away her pillow,
Her saliva pearls from her perfect mouth.
On a night filled with poetry's trappings
Where the darkness of night grows denser.
If dawn breaks to you a tentative gray,
Like the full moon over the spine of a palm tree,
How can a gazelle describe her qualities?
Even if it tried, it could not depict her.
How much yearning have I hidden and revealed
In it, and the secret of desire remains unhidden.
But by her determination and the anger
Of a moment made firm by an Indian scabbard,
When she rebuked my heart's love for her
An excuse came with my own exoneration.
She arrived and rekindled unextinguished concerns
And reminded me of an unforgotten pact.
Would that a glance had made my heart rapturous
That visited you, while you wore gazelle anklets.
I was granted a promised meeting from you, awaited
And fulfilled by destiny’s tradition.
