1. مسير قد ألمّ به هناء

    ودهرٌ كل ما فيه صفاءٌ

    A journey that brought him joy

    And a fate whose essence is serenity

  2. واقبال وسعد كل يوم

    يجدده صباحك والمساء

    Good fortune and bliss every day

    Renewed by your mornings and evenings

  3. وعزٌ وافتخار وارتفع

    وتمكين ومجدٌ وارتقاء

    Honor and pride and elevation

    And enablement, glory, and ascent

  4. فسر بالأمن في دعة وحفظ

    تحفّ بك السلامة والبقاء

    So travel in peace, calm, and protection

    Enveloped by safety and permanence

  5. فارضٌ بنت عنها فهي قفر

    وارض قد حللت بها سماء

    A land that has turned to wasteland

    And an earth graced by skies

  6. فيا شوقي لكم حين التنائي

    ويا اسني بكم حيث اللقاء

    Oh Shawqi, how long will we be apart

    Oh intimate friend, until when is the reunion

  7. اعيذك ان تغيب فدتك روحي

    وقد قلت لك الروح الفداء

    I implore you not to disappear; my soul is yours

    And I have said my soul is your ransom

  8. فمن ان غبت يولينا جميلا

    ومن يعتادنا منه الحياء

    If you are absent, who will be good to us

    And who will make us shy as you do

  9. ومن يجلو ظلام الفقر عنا

    وليس بغير وجهك يستضاء

    And who will dispel the darkness of poverty from us

    And without your face, there is no light

  10. ومن يحلو به تكرار مدحي

    اذا ما المدح طرزه الثناء

    And who will enjoy my repeated praise

    When that praise is embroidered by eulogy

  11. ومن يحنو على ايتام نظمي

    وانت كفيلها ولك الولاء

    And who will care for my orphaned poems

    You are their guarantor; loyalty is yours

  12. فقربي من حياتك لي نعيم

    وبعدي عن نداك هو الشقاء

    So bring the bliss of your life closer to me

    And distance from your company is misery

  13. فصبرا يا دمشق الشام صبرا

    ويا مصر به فلك الهناء

    So patience, O Damascus Levant, patience

    And O Egypt, through it lies your delight

  14. فبحر الجود قد وافاك حقا

    وزادك بهجة هذا الوفاء

    The sea of generosity has truly come to you

    Increasing the rapture of this loyalty

  15. امام بالنقى والحق يقضي

    وليس لعز علياه انقضاء

    A leader rules with purity and truth

    And the glory of the Lofty has no end

  16. شهاب قد توقد من ذكاء

    وعم اخا الشذا منه الذكاء

    A flame kindled from intelligence

    Its light spread to revive the fragrant herbs

  17. غنيت بمدحه فطربت شوقا

    وذو الاشواق يطربه الغناء

    I sang his praises, so I trembled in yearning

    And the passionate one is moved by song

  18. بنائله ربيع الفضل يحيى

    اذا ما عز في الصيف الشتاء

    With his masterpieces the spring of merit revives

    When winter triumphs in summer

  19. وكم قد شاد مجدا في ابتداء

    على العيا عليه الانتهاء

    And how much glory he built at the beginning

    Its zenith matches its start

  20. واعرب مجده عما ابتناه

    فيالك معرب فيه البناء

    And his glory transcended what he erected

    What a transcender in it lies the structure!

  21. تراه مفردا علما ينادي

    له بالرفع يختص النداء

    You see him peerless in knowledge calling

    Exclusively to him belongs the vocative

  22. عطاياه السنية ليس تخفى

    وضوء الشمس ليس به خفاء

    His annual gifts are not concealed

    As the sun's light has no obscurity

  23. له وجه يحدث عنه بشر

    ويروي من سماحته عطاء

    He has a face that relates his munificence

    And from his generosity flows charity

  24. فيا من بالهبات له اغتناء

    ومن عنابه زال العناء

    O you from whose grants lies enrichment

    And from whose clouds dispersed adversity

  25. لبابك راجيا قد جئت اسعى

    وانت لنا نعم نعم الرجاء

    To your door hoping I have come rushing

    And you are bounty; the greatest hope

  26. فجد واجبر لديك كسير قلبي

    فداء الفقر منك له دواء

    So be generous and mend my broken heart

    Redeeming poverty lies in your remedy

  27. فدم في نعمة وكمال سعد

    لك الخدم الموالي والاماء

    Remain in bliss and complete fortune

    For you are the loyal servants and maidens

  28. وسدوا رق المعالي وابق فردا

    شهابا للانام به اهتداء

    And ascend to the highest refinements and remain unique

    A Shihāb guiding people thereby

  29. فلا زالت طباقك عاليات

    على اعلى السماك لها سماء

    So your spheres remain lofty

    With a sky over the highest firmament

  30. ولا برحت بيوتك في انتظام

    ومن حسن الختام لها ابتداء

    And your buildings remain orderly

    With a beautiful conclusion lies its beginning

  31. ودام لك الهنا ما دام صبح

    ومن مشكاته لمَعَ الضياء

    And may your delight last as long as dawn lasts

    And from its lanterns shone light
