1. عدمت صبري غداة البين أو جلدي

    إن كان يوما سواها مر في خلدي

    My patience ran out the morning we parted, or perhaps my endurance

    Whether a day other than it has passed in my mind

  2. هيفاء لينة الاعطاف قاسية

    لا ينقضي املي منها ولا امدي

    Gentle of movement yet harsh is Haiifa

    My hope in her does not end nor my outstretched hand

  3. بديعة الحسن ما قد كان اقربها

    بعيدة الوصل لا تلوي على احد

    Beautiful of form - how close she had been!

    Distant now of visit - she turns not to anyone

  4. تجمعت يا اخا الاوصاف من غصن

    ومن غزال كناس جمع متحد

    Qualities, O brother, gathered as from a branch

    And from a shy gazelle in unified collection

  5. فالقد قد قضيب البان ان عطفت

    والجيد جيد الغزال النافر الشرد

    Her figure is like a slim staff if she turns

    Her cheek the cheek of a shying, fleeing gazelle

  6. مكحّل بفتور الغنج ناظرها

    حاشا اقول قريب العهد من رمد

    With the languor of half-open narcissi are her eyes lined

    I speak not of one newly healed of rheum

  7. في لحظها حور ناهيك من حور

    في جيدها غيد ناهيك من غيد

    In her glances are houris - no less than houris

    In her cheeks beauty - no less than beauty

  8. مزخرف صدغها ما مسها قلم

    منظم ثغرها لكن بغير يد

    Adorned are her temples untouched by a pen

    Patterned her mouth though not by a hand

  9. واحر قلبي إلى ذاك الرضاب وقد

    اضحت مباسمها تفترّ عن برد

    And hot my heart for that contour though

    Her smiles now disclose something of coolness

  10. ويلاه مما اقاسي في الغرام وما

    بي حل من لحظها النفاث في العقد

    Woe to me! What suffering from love and no

    Relief from her piercing glances on the necklace beads

  11. لو قيل لي مت غدا طوع الغرام بها

    وكان ذاك رضاها مت قبل غد

    If told "Die tomorrow for love of her"

    And that her wish - I'd die before tomorrow

  12. لولا دجى شعرها طالت مسافته

    ما بت اشكو لها سهدي ولا كمدي

    Were it not for the darkness of her hair prolonging the distance

    I would not complain of my wakefulness or my rising

  13. لها الهوى قادني قود الاسير فهل

    من آخذ بيدي في الحب او قودي

    For her love desire led me captive so is there

    One to take my hand in love or lead me

  14. لا تنكروا مدمعي ان سال اسوده

    فانما سال ذاك الدمع من كبدي

    Reproach not my tears if they flow black

    For only from my liver could such a tear have flowed

  15. لم انس ليلة اذ باتت معانقتي

    الى الصباح وقد وسدتها عضدي

    I forget no night I spent embraced

    Until morning, her enfolded in my arms

  16. كأننا واحد في العين تحسبنا

    لشدة الالف او روحين في جسد

    As if we were one in the eye's sight

    So strong the harmony, or two spirits in one body
