  1. أما وعذاب قلبي في هواها

    وما صنعت بأحشائي خباها

    My heart is torn with love and longing for her,

    And consumed by the mystery of her being.

  2. فؤادي لو شوت بالهجر يوما

    على نار الغرام لما قلاها

    If my heart survived a day without seeing her,

    It would be fuel on the flames of passion.

  3. سلاها هل سلا عنها فؤادي

    فؤادي هل سلا عنها سلاها

    Could my heart find peace away from her?

    Never! It knows no solace but in her presence.

  4. فلا عاش الذي في الحب يوما

    بسلوتها تفوه أو نواها

    No lover lives long in happiness

    Without being soothed by her gentleness.

  5. بآية حسنها قد همت لما

    بها ضل العذول وقد تلاها

    Her beauty astounds all who see her,

    The wise and foolish alike adore her.

  6. تصول بخالها عجبا وتسطو

    وقد اضحت تجرد لي اباها

    She walks proudly, boldly revealing

    Her graces that kings might envy and desire.

  7. مهفهفة القوام اذا تثنت

    فيا خجل الغصون ويا حياها

    Her slender shape sways gracefully

    As the branches sway in the breeze shyly.

  8. رنت لي باللحاظ فقلت هذي

    سيوف جردت ام مقلتاها

    Her glances pierce my soul like swords,

    Or surely wound it with their flashes.

  9. وفت وعدي فما اشهى واحلى

    وقد قبلت وجنتها وفاها

    She smiled and promised and fulfilled

    With a kiss that set my heart ablaze.

  10. بمرشفها لقد هام المعنى

    ولو لم يرتشف منها لماها

    Her radiance dazzles the mind’s eye,

    Her sweet waters revive the soul of the thirsty.

  11. يقول لي العذول فتنت فاترك

    ملامك في الهوى واعشق سواها

    The wise say leave her, cease your madness!

    Yet how can I love any but her?

  12. فقلت له ومني الصبر فان

    يطيل اللّه مولاي بقاها

    I say to them, I am patient,

    May my Lord prolong her life!
