1. لعبت بقلبي والحشا اهواه

    اترى لداء في هواي دواء

    She played with my heart, and madly I loved her

    الا الشفاه من الحسان شفاء

    And yet I knew there is no remedy for lovesickness

    Except the lips of the beautiful, that is the cure

  3. من كل سافرة اللثام كأنها

    بدر الدجا ونطاقها الجوزاء

    Behind every veiled one, as if she were

    The full moon of darkness, her veil like night

  4. تسطو لواحظها على مهج الورى

    وتصول في العشاق كيف تشاء

    Her glances reign over the hearts of mankind

    And she walks among lovers however she wishes

  5. ملكتها قلبي لعلمي انني

    لا روح لي معها ولا اعضاء

    She has conquered my heart, for I know

    Without her I have no soul or limbs

  6. قل للظبا اللاتي حكين لحاظها

    ما في عيونك يا ظباء حياء

    Say to the gazelles with languid glances

    What modesty lies in your eyes, o gazelles?

  7. واذا تثنت قل لاغصان النقا

    ما انت والسمر الرشاق سواء

    And if the delicate branches bend, say to them

    You and the slender dark-eyed one are not equal

  8. قامت تعاطيني المدام وريقها

    يغنيك عما تفعل الصهباء

    She stood offering me a cup, intoxicating wine

    It distracts you from what the blonde has done

  9. وغدت تدير على الصحاب زجاجة

    سال النضار بها وقام الماء

    And she began to turn among the revelers a bottle

    From which pure wine flowed, and water rose

  10. وجلت شموسا في الكؤس حبابها

    مثل اللجين لها الدنان سماء

    And she created suns in the cup, bubbles

    Like pearls, with gold as their heaven

  11. بكر سلاف بابن ماء زوجت

    عذراء الا انها شمطاء

    An innocent virgin, Bakr Sulaym married

    To the son of water, yet she is shameless

  12. صفراء كيس فرغته كؤوسها

    وغدوت لا بيضا ولا صفراء

    A yellow bag that has poured out its cups

    She was no longer white or yellow

  13. زارت دجا خوف الوشاة تكتما

    أو كيف يخفى في الظلام ضياء

    She visited darkness, fearing the gossipers

    Or how can light be hidden in the dark?

  14. وبدت وقد ارخت ذوائب شعرها

    فتعارض لاصباح والامساء

    And she appeared, her braided hair undone

    So dawn and dusk contend together

  15. وغدوت من دهر أقول لها وهل

    امن ازديارك في الدجا الرقباء

    And I said, does your visit in the night

    Spare the watchmen from slander?

  16. ان المليحة لم يشنها عذرها

    والعذر منها في الغرام وفاء

    The beautiful woman is not spared by her excuse

    And her excuse in love is faithfulness

  17. لا تطلبنّ من الظباء مودةً

    هيهات ما ترعى الوداد ظباء

    Do not seek affection from gazelles

    Alas, gazelles do not nurture affection
