1. أحيا الربيع الأرض بعد مماتها

    وحلا بسكب القطر عود نباتها

    Spring revived the earth after its death

    And adorned it by pouring rain, its source of life

  2. وسرى النسيم على الرياض وقد أتى

    يهدي إليك الطيب من نفحاتها

    The breeze blew through the gardens when it came

    Bearing sweet fragrances in its breaths

  3. والعود هزته الصبا والطير قد

    غنت عليه باختلاف لغاتها

    It swayed the branches and the birds sang

    Varied melodies in different tongues

  4. والزهر قد ألقى النثار كأنما

    أدت كنوز الروض بعض زكاتها

    The flowers cast off their petals as though

    The garden paid its tithe with its treasures

  5. والأرض كلها الندى بجواهر

    نظمت عقود الدر من حباتها

    The dew bejeweled the land with pearls

    Stringing necklaces with its beads

  6. والروض بالريحان خرج اسطرا

    اضحت غصون البان من الفاتها

    The garden emerged wearing basil garlands

    With jasmine branches as its robes

  7. الفات روض قد امالتها الصبا

    فكأنما التسكين في حركاتها

    The morning breeze adorned it, swaying

    As if seeking calm in its motions

  8. تحكي عنادلها على اعوادها

    خطباء تتلو الوعظ من سجعاتها

    Its nightingales on the branches recite

    Sermons of wisdom in their warbling

  9. وحكت جداولها خلاخيلا وقد

    اضحى خرير الماء من رناتها

    Its streams murmur, their babble now a hymn

    Made of the water's melody

  10. والصبح من وجه الحبيب بدا وقد

    بزغت شموس الراح من مشكاتها

    The sun rose, your beloved's face shining

    Dawns of comfort beaming from his features

  11. قم نبه الاقداح ان الشمس قد

    شنت على جيش الدجا غاراتها

    Rise and rouse the cups, the sun has launched

    Raids on the army of darkness

  12. واستجل عرس الروض في بسطا الهنا

    فالراح قد خضبت اكف سقاتها

    Celebrate the garden's wedding in its expanse

    The wind has reddened the cups’ hands

  13. راح اذا ما عز داؤك برؤه

    يسري اليك البرء من نفحاتها

    If grief weighs heavily, the wind's breath

    Will bring you relief in its sighs

  14. طافت بها تسقي السقاة فقم إلى

    ميزابها واحجج الى ميقاتها

    The water-bearers circle round, so hasten

    To the watering place and head to its time

  15. ومليحة بين الرياض اذا انثنت

    عجبا ومالت يا حيا باناتها

    Lovely among gardens when she sways

    Bashfully, with a coy tilt

  16. واذا بدت من خدرها وتلفتت

    يا خجلة الغزلان من لفتاتها

    When she emerges from her bower and turns

    Shyly, like a doe in her glances

  17. عاب الوشاة قناعها فاجبتهم

    لا تخرج الأقمار عن هالااتها

    They blame her veil, but she responds

    "Planets shine not outside their halos"

  18. يكفي بان البدر يدعى عبدها

    ويقال ان الشمس من ضرّاتها

    It's enough that the moon is named her servant

    And the sun is said to be her handmaid

  19. لم انس أنس حديثها لي عندما

    زارت وقد نامت عيون وشاتها

    I cannot forget the pleasure of her conversation

    When she visited, eyes of rivals asleep

  20. والشمس تشرق بهجة وملاحة

    من نورها وصفاتها وصفاتها

    The sun rises cheerfully radiant

    With its light, traits and qualities

  21. والصبح كاد يضيء لولا شعرها

    يبقى ليالينا على حالاتها

    Were it not for her hair, dawn would shine

    Leaving our nights continuing in their states

  22. للّه هاتيك الليبلات التي

    قد فزت باللذات من اوقاتها

    Praise God for those nights that

    Surpassed others in delights

  23. حيث المسرة والشبيبة والصبا

    واللهو والايام في غفلاتها

    Where there was joy, youth, charm

    Play, heedlessness in their hours

  24. فلأشكرنها ما حييت لياليا

    قاضي القضاة اليوم من حسناتها

    I will thank those nights as long as I live

    The Judge of judges will count them as virtues

  25. مولى به طابت دمشق واصبحت

    ايامه غررا على جبهاتها

    My lord, in you Damascus thrived

    And your days became gems on its brow

  26. بحر اياديه تفيض سماحة

    جودا وفيض الجود من عاداتها

    The sea of your hands overflows with generosity

    Freely, generosity being your habit

  27. لم يخش من بذل النوال منازعا

    وكفاك ان الجود من راحاتها

    You never feared to give openly as gifts

    It's enough that giving is your nature

  28. لا عيب فيه غير ان يمينه

    تعطي الالوف وذاك بعض هباتها

    No fault in him but that his right hand

    Gives thousands while that's some of his gifts

  29. يكفيه فخرا ان سورة مجده

    اضحى الثنا والحمد من آياتها

    It's enough pride that the chapter of his glory

    Has become praise and laudation in its verses

  30. رد يا اخا الجدوى مناهل جوده

    مترويا من عذبها وفراتها

    Turn back, brother, to the springs of his munificence

    Quenched from its sweet waters and streams

  31. اقلامه تختال في دوح الندى

    اذ كان حمل الجود من ثمراتها

    His pens vaunt in the inkstand's radiance

    Since bearing generosity is of their fruits

  32. والى ميادين النوال تسابقت

    او ما تراه قد حوى قصباتها

    To the race track of bounty they surged

    As if he contained all its meadows

  33. ياذا الذي احيا المكارم بعد ما

    كان انطوى واعاد نشر حيتها

    O you who revived the noble deeds after

    They had waned, and spread wide its life

  34. عذرا فاشعاري لقد بارت فقد

    ضيعت ايامي على ساعاتها

    Forgive me, my poetry has declined

    I wasted my days in its hours

  35. فامدد إلى نحوي يمينا طالما

    جادت عوائدها بعود صلاتها

    So extend to me a right hand which

    When greeted, returns the greetings

  36. وجنيت من ثمراتها ونعمت من

    زهراتها ورتعت في صدقاتها

    I reaped its fruits, delighted in

    Its flowers, and grazed in its givings

  37. واليك خذها بالمحامد مدحة

    حماد من حفّاظها ورواتها

    And to you take it, with praise, a eulogy

    Recited by its preservers and transmitters

  38. لو عاصرت شيخ الشيوخ لجاءها

    منطفلا يسعى إلى أبياتها

    If it was with the Sheikh of Sheikhs, he would've

    Imposed himself to attain its verses

  39. او لو يكررها الفتى ابن نباتة

    يوما لقال نعم انا ابن نباتها

    Or if the youth Ibn Nabata recited it one day

    He would've said "Yes, I am its source"

  40. ولو ابن حجة رام منها وقفة

    ما حاد في مسمعاه عن ميقاتها

    If Ibn Hijja wanted a piece of it

    He wouldn't divert from its time in his hearing

  41. لولاك لم ينشر لها طي ولا

    كانت معاني الحسن من أدواتها

    Were it not for you, it wouldn't have gained renown

    Nor would the virtues of beauty been its tools

  42. لا زال نجمك بالسعادة طالعا

    وبلغت من درج العلا غاياتها

    Your star continues to rise in fortune

    And reaches the highest celestial degrees

  43. ما اعربت بالسجع ورقاء الحمى

    طربا وعنه أضحت بلغاتها

    It hasn't expressed in rhymed prose the fever's

    Throbs of joy, for you are its eloquence
