Tell the one who complains of insomnia,
O companion of passion and anxiety,
That in love I see none
Like my state, nor insomnia.
O you who for me has slept and rested,
While Satan, my solace,
With the flame of passion has burned.
O beard of God, blaming
Came with superstition and nonsense.
He thought I was his solace,
While your love, he did not believe.
If he came to me openly
With kinds of blame,
I would not have cracked the stick, and from
The dawn and daybreak descended.
By my father in passion a shower
Upon me an arrow of love shot.
In it I let flow my tears
As it runs in floods.
And towards its inclination
Came an inclination in harmony.
Of soft stature, crescent his cheek,
Sunset his blushing cheek.
If dawn saw his cheek,
It would split and crack from it.
Or if the full moon saw his face,
It would disappear in the darkness and vanish.
Or if the branch saw his stature,
The branch would hide in the leaves.
What harm did his phantom do
If to the door of the tavern it knocked?
