  2. حسب الهوى ان لي روحا عليك قضت

    وجدا واني لها في الله احتسب

    According to love, my soul is devoted to you

    With passion, and for it I seek reward from God

  3. يا تاركي باعاريض الهوى مثلا

    نقضت حبل الوفا قل لي فما السبب

    O you who've abandoned love's principles as an example

    You've broken loyalty's rope, tell me what's the cause

  4. علقته لبني الاتراك نسبته

    الى معانيه حسنا تنتمي العرب

    I tied it to the Turks' lineage, attributed it

    To its meanings, beautifully belonging to the Arabs

  5. ظبي اذا ما رنا لحظا وبدر دجى

    اذا تبدى وغصن حين ينتسب

    A gazelle, when it glanced for a moment, and a full moon when it shone

    And a branch when it swayed

  6. انا القتيل به من غير ما سبب

    ومن اجل شهودي في الهوى الوصب

    I'm the one slain by it without cause

    And because of my passion for love, the fervor

  7. وكيف ينكر قتلي سيف مقلته

    وخده بدم العشاق مختضب

    How can he deny slaying me, his sword blade

    With his cheek stained by the blood of lovers

  8. ساق بمجلسه اللذات قد كملت

    تجانس الحسن في معناه والادب

    He brought enjoyments to his gathering, made complete

    Beauty's harmony in its meaning and propriety

  9. فالورد وجنته والخمر ريقته

    وكأس فيه عقيق دره الحبب

    So the roses and their blossoms, the wine its draft

    And a cup with ruby juice as the seeds' beloved

  10. بديرها قهوة بكراً معتقة

    في الكاس قد حدثت عن عصرها الحقب

    At her monastery, pure, early-harvested coffee

    In the cup, it tells of the era of its harvest

  11. تولدت من دم العنقود نشأتها

    فالكرم ام وماء المعصرات اب

    Born from vine's blood, it originated

    So the vine's the mother, and the press's water, the father

  12. صفراء تشرق شمسا من مطالعها

    سماؤها الكأس فيه تطلع الشهب

    Golden, she rises like a sun in her horizons

    Her sky is the cup, in it rise the embers

  13. عذراء لو مسها بالماء لامسها

    لكاد يحرقه من نورها اللهب

    A virgin, if she's touched by water, it touches her

    Its light almost burns it with flames

  14. فاستجلها من فم الابريق مشرقة

    فمن معادنه يستخرخ الذهب

    So draw her from the jug's mouth radiant

    For from its essence is mined the gold
