فؤاد قد أضر به التنائي

وعين لا تقر من البكاء

My heart has been hurt by separation

And my eyes do not rest from weeping

واجفان ينصل البين جرحى

لفرط الحزن تذرف بالدماء

And my eyelids, my wounds between us bleed

From the excess of sorrow they shed tears of blood

ودهر قد نعمت به فولي

ولم ار ذاك الا من شقائي

And time has been good to me so it turned

And I saw that only from my misery

ومن دون الورى لما عناني

رماني بالبعاد وبالعناء

And beyond creation when it weakened me

It cast me into distance and hardship

فيا ظمأي لبحر كان جودا

يفيض لنا نداه بالوفاء

So O my thirst for a sea that was generosity

Overflowing for us its compatibility

وبر لا يزال بنا رؤفا

عطوفا بالوفا حسن العطاء

And righteousness that does not cease to be merciful to us

Compassionate with compatibility, excellent bestowal

ومصباح العلوم لطالبيه

وللآمال مفتاح الرجاء

And the lantern of knowledge for its seekers

And for hopes the key to wishes

ومجدي السائلين الجود فضلا

نعم واخو الندا يوم النداء

And my glory of the generous their generosity

Yes, and the brother of glory on the day of calling

ثوى تحت التراب وليس عهدي

بان الشمس الا في السماء

He dwelled under the soil and it is not my era

That the sun is anywhere but in the sky

ترى من بعده من للفتاوي

اذا ما الامر اشكل في خفاء

You see after him who for juristic opinion

When the matter is obscured in ambiguity

ومن للنحو او للفقه او للأ

صول او القواعد في البناء

And who for grammar or jurisprudence or principles

Or the foundations in architecture

ومن للعلم او للحلم يوما

ومن للفهم او من للذكاء

And who for knowledge or forbearance one day

And who for understanding or who for intelligence

ومن لابن السبيل اذا اتاه

وسدت دونه سبل الغناء

And who for the son of the path if he came to him

And the ways of livelihood were closed to him

فلو بالروح يفدى او بمال

لجدت وكنت اسمح بالفداء

So if with the soul he is ransomed or with money

I would have found and been open to ransom

ولكن لا مفر ولا دفاعا

من الاجل المحتم في القضاء

But there is no escape or defense

From the destined predetermined decree

فما آجالنا الا هبات

وما الانسان الا كالهباء

So our lifetimes are nothing but gifts

And man is nothing but like vapor

لئن كان انطوى فالذكر باق

يفوح لطيبه نشر الثناء

If he has been folded then the memory remains

It fragrantly spreads the diffusion of praise

فصبرا يا بنيه اليوم صبرا

فان الصبر يؤذن بالجزاء

So patience O my children today, patience

For patience signals reward

فما اخلى الاله لكم ربوعا

وصيرها ربيعا بالهناء

For the God has not left you any open plains

And made it spring with bliss

وباعد كل سوء عن حماكم

ولا نادى به نادي الفناء

And distanced every evil from your protection

And no caller has called to it the caller of demise

وضاعف بالاجور لكم ثوابا

وأحسن في المصاب وفي العزاء

And doubled the compensation for you as reward

And done excellently in the affliction and in the consolation

ومن غيث القبول سقى وحيا

ثراه في الصباح وفي المساء

And from the rain of acceptance He quenched and gave life

To its fertility in the morning and the evening

وجدد فيض رحمته عليه

واكرم نزله حتى اللقاء

And renewed the outpouring of His mercy upon it

And honored its descent until the meeting

واسكنه من الفردوس داراً

مع الابرار اخوان الصفاء

And settled it a house from Paradise

With the righteous, brethren of serenity
