فارقتُكُمْ وفراقكُمْ صَعْبُ

لا الجسمُ يحمله ولا القلبُ

Parting with you all is hard

Neither body can bear it, nor heart

قُتِلَ البعادُ فما أشيرَ به

حَتّى تَمَزّقَ بَينَنا القربُ

Distance was killed, so I no longer point to it

Till closeness was torn apart between us

أمقيمةٌ والرّكبُ مُرْتَحِلٌ

بالصّبرِ عنك تَرَحّلَ الركبُ

Staying put while the caravan is leaving

With patience, the caravan leaves you

كم ذا يزورُ البحرَ بحرُ أسى

في العين منك جُمانُهُ رطبُ

How much does a sea of sorrow visit the sea

Wetness of you in my eyes

ما كان نأيي عن ذراك قلىً

فيموتَ بعْد حياتِه الحبُّ

My estrangement from you was not little

Then love dies after its life

إني لأرجو السلمَ من زمنٍ

قامَتْ على ساقٍ له حرْبُ

I still hope for peace from a time

That stood on a leg which has war

والدهر إن يُسْعِدْ فربَّتَما

صَلُحَ الجموحُ وذلّل الصعبُ

And if time makes happy, sometimes

The stubborn softens and the difficult yields
