Keep my greying hair, for I do not conceal

A wound with henna dye lest the wound heal.

And if you lose a day from life, alas!

You'll never make up for it, try as you will.

Grey hair's disgrace is hidden by dye's disgrace—

Like stanching an open sore with an open sore.

God's dye I do not try to hide with my hand,

    Cloaking ugliness with ugliness.

What meanings in it! What exotic things

Between words said and their interpretation!

And henna is like the night's darkness

Under which grey hair's dawn gleams.
