أَبيعُ منَ الأَيّامِ عمري وأشتري
ذنوباً كأني حين أخْسَرُ أربحُ
I sell my days for a life, and I buy
Sins, as if when I lose I profit
فهلَّا أذبتُ القلب من حُرَق الأسى
وصَيَّرْتُهُ دمعاً من العين يُسفحُ
So why don't I melt the heart from the burns of sorrow
And make it a tear from the eye that pours down
وأنّى وفي عُقْبَى الشبابِ عقوبةٌ
أُسَرّ بها بئس السرورُ وأَفرحُ
And how can I, when in the aftermath of youth is a punishment
That miserable joy takes delight in and I rejoice
