1. وممشوقةِ القدّ معشوقةٍ

    تُعَذِّبُ أنفُسَ عُشّاقها

    With legs like date palms swaying

    She torments her lovers' souls

  2. بعينٍ إذا سَحَرَتْ بالفتور

    بدا للمها بعض أحداقها

    With eyes that when languid

    Reveal but some of their depths

  3. وقدٍّ يميتُ حياة الغصون

    فتذوي نَضَارةُ أوراقها

    With a figure that kills the vitality of branches

    Melting the freshness of their leaves

  4. وشدوٍ يقوم لفرط السّرُور

    بنفسِ الحزين على ساقها

    With a voice that rises with excessive joy

    In the sad soul on her legs

  5. تهيمُ به الهيمُ عن شربها

    زُلالاً لإحياءِ أرماقِها

    She fascinates with her charm as she sips

    Reviving her parched throat

  6. وتخلعُ إن سمِعَتْهُ الحَمامُ

    عليها قلائدَ أطواقها

    And if she hears the doves' coos

    She adorns herself with necklaces

  7. فمن لشجٍ سَهْلُ أخلاقِهِ

    يُعَذّبُهُ وَعْرُ أخلاقها

    So one gentle of nature though he be

    Is tormented by her difficult nature

  8. ترى صَدَّها عاقلاً رُوحَهُ

    فيا وَصْلَها جُدْ بإطْلاقِها

    You see her rejection drive his soul mad

    So seek her embrace, set her free
