1. And this poem is like a bride,

    Adorned with lovely meanings,

  2. Without a whiff of some passerby's fart,

Nor a mustard seed's weight of excrement.

  3. Were it made into a wedding sermon,

It would untie the bonds of marriage.

  4. I sent it forth as ambergris in winter,

And in summer as camphor from a windy purge.

  5. Yet it has wiped no eunuch's arse,

Nor rubbed the gullets of milch she-camels.

  6. My verse cannot but have its vulgarity—

As a house cannot but have a privy.
