ومهاةٍ غريرةٍ

غضة الحسن ناهدِ

A tender, charming doe,

whose beauty captivates,

فتنتني بمعصمٍ

وبكف وساعد

allured me with her wrist,

her palm and forearm,

وبثغر منضدٍ

شنب الريق بارد

and lips like dewdrops

glistening with cool saliva.

ونسيم كأنه اش

تق بارد

Her breath is as gentle

as the breeze at dawn,

فهو طيباً كذكره

في الثنا والمحامد

as sweet as legends told

in praise and song.

همةٌ في العلا اقتدت

بالسهى والفراقد

A spirit that aspires

to greatness like the ancients,

وندى بخلت به

كفُّ يحيى بن خالد
