سأَمْنَعُ قَلبِي أن يَحِنَّ إِلَيْكِ

وأنْهى دموعِي أَن تَفيضَ عَلَيْكِ

I will prevent my heart from yearning for you,

And stop my tears from spilling over you.

أَغَدْراً وَلَمْ أَغدِرْ وخَوْناً وَلَمْ أَخُنْ

لقد ضاعَ لي صدْقُ الوفاءِ لَدَيْكِ

Betrayal - yet I did not betray, treachery - yet I was not treacherous.

For me, the honesty of loyalty in you is lost.

بِفِعْلِكِ عِيبَ الحَسنُ عندِي وإِنْ غَدَتْ

مهاةُ النَّقا والشَّمْسُ مُشْتَبِهَيْكِ

Through your actions, beauty has become a flaw to me, even if

The bright moon and sun resemble you.

أَصُدُّ بوجهي عن سَنا الشَّمْسِ طالِعاً

لأَنْ صار مَنْسُوبَ الصِّفَاتِ إِلَيْكِ

I turn my face away from the rising sun,

For its traits have become associated with you.

وأَستَفْظِعُ الشَّهْدَ اللذِيذَ مَذَاقُهُ

لِمَطْعَمِهِ الموجودِ فِي شَفَتَيْكِ

And I find distasteful the sweet honey whose taste is delightful,

Due to the flavor found on your lips.

وأَصرِفُ عن ذِكْرَاكِ سمعي ومَنْطِقِي

ولو نازَعَتْنِيها حَمامةُ أَيْكِ

I turn my hearing and speech away from the mention of you,

Even if a dove disputes them from me.

ولو عَنَّ لي ظَبْيُ الفَلا لاجْتَنَبْتُهُ

لِتِمْثالِ عَيْنَيْكِ وسالِفَتَيْكِ

And if a graceful doe were to pass by me, I would avoid it

Due to the image of your eyes and your glances of the past.
