1. إِذَا شِئْتِ كَانَ النَّجْمُ عندَكِ شاهِدِي

    بلَوْعَةِ مُشتاقٍ ومُقْلَةِ ساهِدِ

    When you wish, the stars bear witness for me,

    To the agony of a longing lover and the sleeplessness of one who lies awake.

  2. غريبٌ كساهُ البينُ أَثوابَ مُدْنَفٍ

    وحَفَّتْ بِهِ الأَشجانُ حفَّ الولائِدِ

    A stranger whom separation has clothed in tattered robes,

    And whom the branches surround with the embrace of one giving birth.

  3. بَعيدِ الضُّحى من بَعْدِ إِلْفٍ مُفارِقٍ

    طويلِ الدُّجى من طولِ بَثٍّ مُعاوِدِ

    Far, when day breaks, after familiarity now departed,

    Prolonged, during the night's gloom, after continuous separation.

  4. كَأَنَّ ظلامَ الليلِ سَدَّ طَرِيقَهُ

    تعلُّقُ أَجفانِي بِرَعْيِ الفراقِدِ

    As if the darkness of night has blocked his path, while my eyelids cling to the grazing of the flock.

    And the horizons around him are clad in the mourning garments of early-risers lamenting daybreak.

  5. وَقَدْ لَبِسَتْ آفاقُهُ من دُجُونِهِ

    حِدادَ نواعٍ للصباحِ فَوَاقِدُ

    Ask me, after the completeness of night I traversed with the sigh of a longing lover and impassioned breaths,

    About your fragrant dwellings which I enveloped with complaints of night visitors to the insensitive.

  6. سَلِيني عن الليلِ التَّمامِ قطعْتُهُ

    بزفرَةِ مُشتاقٍ وأَنفاسِ واجِدِ

    My separation is prolonged by the long night, content

    To recall a vanished intimacy no longer present.

  7. طَوَاكِ على طِيبِ الكرى فطَوَيْتُهُ

    بشكوى سَلي عنهُنَّ صُمَّ الجَلامِدِ

    And the fullness of the sky with stars makes me desolate

    For a planet in the sunset of separation, singular.

  8. يطاولُ ليلُ التِّمِّ بَثِّيَ مُسْعِداً

    عَلَى ذِكْرِ إِلْفٍ بانَ غيرِ مُساعِدِ

    Did I not know the dawn was your likeness before it,

    So I recognize its successor now from the appointments missed.

  9. ويوحِشُني ملْءُ السماءِ كواكِباً

    إِلَى كوكبٍ فِي مَغْرِبِ البَيْنِ واحِدِ

    It will keep the pact of loyalty to me if you break it.

    My agony in passion for you will honor my pledges.

  10. أَلَمْ أَدْرِ أَنَّ الصُّبحَ شِبْهُكَ قَبْلَها

    فأَعرِفَ منه الآنَ خُلْفَ المَوَاعِدِ

    Soon my requests will be revealed

    By the most blossomed of meadows and the most splendid achievements.

  11. ستَرْعى وفاءَ العهدِ لي إن نَقَضْتَهُ

    لواعِجُ بَثٍّ فِي هواكِ مُعاهِدِي

    A king who gathers kingship and glory,

    And wards off harm to reputations and glory with a shield.

  12. ويُوشِكُ أَن تُجْلى وُجوهُ مَطَالبِي

    بأَزْهَرَ وضَّاحٍ وأَرْوَعَ ماجِدِ

    He aroused the heavens for religion, so orthodoxy adhered to him

    And guided the known path, the roads of praise.

  13. مليكٍ لشملِ الملكِ والعِزِّ جامِعٍ

    وعن حُرَمِ الأَحسابِ والمجدِ ذائِدِ

    Alive, he covered the horizons, east and west,

    So the tracks of the guide cannot be followed in any direction.

  14. أَغَرَّ سَما للدِّينِ فاعْتَصَمَ الهُدى

    بِهِ وهَدى المعروفَ سُبْلَ المحامِدِ

    With a sword flanking the destinies of fates, a challenger,

    And a saber subduing the clouds, a fighter.

  15. حَياً طبَّقَ الآفاقَ شَرْقاً ومَغْرِباً

    فما تُقْتَفى فِي المَحْلِ آثارُ رَائِدِ

    A scion whose nobility thrived on the lineages of Himer,

    To every person of pride, a constructor.

  16. بسيفٍ لأَقدارِ الحُتُوفِ مساوِرٍ

    وسَيْبٍ لِتَهْتَانِ الغيومِ مُجاوِدِ

    He possesses, from the pride of Arabs, glories

    Like each highest, firmly rooted, foundation.

  17. سليلُ عُلاً تَنْمِيهِ أَنسابُ حِمْيَرٍ

    إِلَى كُلِّ بانٍ للمفاخِرِ شائِدِ

    Fortresses of power and supremacy, as though

    The suns gained power from the rising of those fortresses.

  18. همامٌ لَهُ من فَخْرِ يَعْرُبَ فِي العُلا

    ذُرى كلِّ سَامِي السَّبْكِ راسِي القواعِدِ

    A young man whom fate, obstinate, submitted to,

    So he came to it, handing over the reins.

  19. محاتِدُ عِزٍّ واعتلاءٍ كَأَنَّما

    سنا الشمسِ من إِشراقِ تِلْكَ المحاتِدِ

    He is the full moon, in its rising, its light, and his sword

    For all time, chases it in its own domain.

  20. فتىً أَذْعَنَ الدهرُ الأَبيُّ لِحُكْمِهِ

    فأَضحى إِلَيْهِ مُلْقِياً بالمَقالِدِ

    From him hopes bowed down,

    And he surpassed all in the far-reaching arena.

  21. هُوَ البَدْرُ إِشراقاً ونوراً وسيفُهُ

    مَدى الدهرِ منه فِي مَحَلِّ عُطَارِدِ

    The most generous of chamberlains veiled sovereignty from him,

    And the most generous of leaders guided the troops of victory.

  22. تدانَتْ من الآمالِ أَنواءُ كَفِّهِ

    وبَرَّزَ سَبْقاً فِي المدى المُتباعِدِ

    The battalions whose motto is the oneness of God

    For them, the day of infidel humiliation has not one.

  23. فَحَجَّبَ منهُ الملكَ أَكرمُ حاجِبٍ

    وقادَ جنودَ النصرِ أَكرمُ قائِدِ

    When they are intent on protecting him, it is as though

    The thunderbolts of heaven swooped down upon it.

  24. كتائِبُ توحيدُ الإِلَهِ شِعارُها

    وَمَا يومُ خِزْيِ الكفر فِيهَا بِواحِدِ

    If after this he returns to the abode of kingship,

    He has secured its borders with the opinion of a warrior.

  25. إِذَا يَمَّمَتْ منه حِمىً فكأَنَّما

    أَرَبَّتْ عَلَيْهِ مُصْعِقاتُ الرَّواعِدِ

    Victory witnessed him even if it did not behold him,

    And patience fought for him even if it did not contend.

  26. لئِنْ حَلَّ دارَ الملكِ من بَعْدُ قافِلاً

    لقد شَدَّ أَقصاها برأْيِ مُجاهِدِ

    May God grant victory to the Victorious One, supporting his religion,

    And reward him, the best son succeeding the best father.

  27. فشاهَدَ عنه النصرُ إِنْ لَمْ يُشَاهِدِ

    وجالَدَ عنهُ الصَّبْرُ إِن لَمْ يُجالِدِ

    And may He strengthen this sovereignty and religion,

    With the right hand of favor which aided the best supporter.

  28. رعى اللهُ للمَنْصُورِ نُصْرَةَ دِينِهِ

    فَجَازَاهُ خيرَ ابْنٍ تلا خَيْرَ والِدِ

    O you who unite Islam, collectively, and leave

    The enemies’ lands desolate, violating the settlements.

  29. وأيّد هَذَا المُلْكَ والدِّينَ مِنْهُما

    بأَيمَنِ يُمْنى ساعَدَتْ خَيْرَ سَاعِدِ

    And plunge into the midst of tumult,

    As the thirsty hasten to fresh water springs.

  30. فيا جامِعَ الإِسلامِ شَمْلاً وتارِكاً

    دِيارَ الأَعادِي مُوحِشاتِ المعاهِدِ

    It bodes well that the Feast has come to you,

    With the cocks heralding joy and return.

  31. ومقتحِمَ الأَهْوالِ فِي حَوْمَةِ الوغى

    كَمَا بادرَ الظمآنُ عذبَ المَوَارِدِ

    It greeted you with glad tidings and wished you well,

    And the fairest witness supported the herald of good news.

  32. لِيَهْنِكَ أَنَّ العيدَ وافاكَ قادِماً

    بأوشَكِ بادٍ للسرورِ وعائِدِ

    So the days continue as holidays due to your merit,

    For every loyal friend, sincere in gratitude.

  33. تلقَّاكَ بالبُشْرَى وحيَّاكَ بالمنى

    وساعَدَ للبُشْرى لأَعْدَلِ شاهِدِ

    And you remain the refuge of a stranger, one hopeful,

    And the recourse for one distraught, and the goal of one with purpose.

  34. فلا زَالَتِ الأَيَّامُ أَعيادَ فضلِكُمْ

    لكُلِّ مُوالٍ خالِصِ الشكرِ حامِدِ

  35. ولا زِلْتُمُ مأْوَى غريبٍ وآمِلٍ

    ومَفْزَعَ ملهوفٍ وفُرْصَةَ قاصِدِ
