In the secret of whoever saw my dwellings

    The gazelles play, grazing freely

Adorned by the mist of the Tigris coast

Through which the meadow flowed, going far and near

Gardens of paradise, of similar delight

The rolling of eyes towards them, of eager viewers

    Of similar, matchless beauty

Peerless forms, none can peer them

Three like the coats of gazelles, splendid

No likeness but the coats and the viewers

    Raised by Romans and Ghassanids

    Suleiman and Aamir nursed them

To be admired whenever a suitor converses

A composer astounds, a poet excels

When the pens flow about them eloquently

The pages of books appear flowery

What you convey to me reminds me

Of addresses of the living, though they are gone

With the return of melodies, as if their yearning

Is what I remember of the traces of your glory

And distracts me from the magic that is in their eyes

Chasing them in the air coquettishly, as if they are

    Doves swooping down

Cranes gliding with joy, and I

Warn them against what spoils joy

And if their daggers are unsheathed

I make them into dispersing clouds

And if one of their riding camel owners stands up

    It is Keyvan or Bahram

Informing me that I have realized

I am grateful for the good you have done for me

And you are linked to bliss

    Which accompanies your prosperous command

And you are greeted by me every day

With a greeting the travelers use as they march on

Signaled by a rising star in the horizon

And returned to me by you, whatever sets from sight
