نورُ الوفاءِ بأَرضِنا لَكَ ساطِعُ

والحَقُّ شملٌ عِنْدَنا بِكَ جامِعُ

The light of loyalty shines in our land because of you,

And truth among us is comprehensive through you.

هُدِيَتْ إِلَى المَنْصُورِ دَعْوَتُكَ الَّتِي

صِدْقُ الوِدادِ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ شافِعُ

Your call which sincerely reached the Victorious

Is escorted by the sincerity of affection to him.

وأَواصِرٌ نَزَعَتْ بِهِنَّ عَناصِرٌ

حَنَّتْ وهُنَّ لشكلِهِنَّ نَوازِعُ

Bonds have been untied by which particles were bound,

They softened and bent to reform their structure.

تِلْكَ المعاهِدُ من عهودِكَ عندَهُ

لَمْ يَعْفُهُنَّ مصائِفٌ ومَرَابِعُ

Those covenants from your covenants with him

Were not worn out by the passing days and nights.

صَدَقَتْ فلا بَرْقُ المَوَدَّةِ خُلَّبٌ

منها ولا غَيمُ القرابَةِ خادِعُ

They are true, no deceit in the lightning of love among them,

Nor is the cloud of kinship among them misleading.

بوسائِلٍ هَتَفَتْ بِهِنَّ جوانِحٌ

فَتَفَرَّجَتْ لِقُبُولِهِنَّ أَضالِعُ

With means the inner hearts have ardently called out,

So breasts expanded to accept them.

فَهِيَ الظِّماءُ إِلَى المياهِ شَوَارِعٌ

وهِيَ الطُّيورُ إِلَى الوُكورِ قَوَاطِعُ

They are the thirsty rushing to water,

And the birds hastily returning to their nests.

طُوِيَتْ لَهَا بُعُدُ التَّنائِفِ وانْزَوى

لدُنُوِّها منهُ الفضاءُ الواسِعُ

For them the expanse of estrangement has folded up

And the vast firmament has closed in nearer to them.

وقَدَحْنَ بالمَرْخِ العَفَارِ فأَقْلَعا

والليلُ بَيْنَهُما نهارٌ ساطِعُ

They ignited with the flint of nobility, so it sparked,

And the night between them is a shining day.

وَزَرَعْنَ فِي التُّرْبِ الكريمِ مكارِماً

أَوْفَتْ لحاسِدِها بما هُوَ زارِعُ

They planted virtues in the generous soil

Which suffice their envier with that which angers him.

نادى المُنادِي من مَنادٍ مُسمِعاً

فأَجابَهُ لِتُجِيبَ رَأْيٌ سامِعُ

The caller called out from a place of calling, listening,

So he responded in order to respond with listening intention.

بِشَوَابِكِ الرَّحِمِ المُوَصَّلَةِ الَّتِي

وُصِلَ الوَصُولُ بِهَا وجُبَّ القاطِعُ

With the linked wombs of kinship,

By which joining has occurred and separation is forbidden.

أَشرقْنَ والأَيامُ ليلٌ دامِسٌ

وحَلَوْنَ والأَنسابُ سُمٌّ ناقِعُ

They shine though the days are a perpetual night,

And they are sweet though genealogies are a falling poison.

برعايَةٍ لا هَدْيُ هُودٍ غائِبٌ

عنها ولا إِيصاءُ يَعْرُبَ ضائِعُ

With a guardianship that neither Hud’s guidance is absent from,

Nor is the advice of Luqman lost from it.

ودُنُوُّها دِينٌ لكُمْ وفرائِضٌ

وسناؤها سُنَنٌ لكُمْ وشرائِعُ

Their nearness is a religion for you and obligations,

And their elevation is laws for you and legislation.

فإِذا تُثَوِّبُ فالقلوبُ نواظِرٌ

وإِذا تُنادِي فالنفوسُ سَوَامِعُ

When they don attire, hearts are watchful,

And when they call out, souls are listening.

بعواطِفِ اليَمَنِ الَّتِي أَنتُمْ لَهَا

وهِيَ اليَمِينُ أَنامِلٌ وأَصابِعُ

With the Yemeni passions which you are for,

And which are fingers and hands inclined toward the right.

جَمَعَتْكُمُ ببطونِهِنَّ حواملٌ

وغَذَتْكُمُ بِثُدِيِّهِنَّ مَرَاضِعُ

Pregnant bonds carried you in their wombs

And suckling nurses fed you at their breasts.

ونحورُها مأْوَىً لكُمْ ومعايِشٌ

وجُحورُها مَثْوىً لكُمْ ومَضاجِعُ

Their breasts are shelter for you and livelihoods,

And their trenches are dwelling for you and beds.

فَتَبِعْتُمُ آثارَ مَا نَهَجَتْ لكُمْ

فِي النَّصْرِ أَذواءٌ لكُمْ وتبابِعُ

So you followed the traces she outlined for you,

In victory, tracks for you and consequences.

قهرُوا الجبابِرَ فالرِّقابُ مقاطِعٌ

لسيوفِهِمْ أَوْ فَالرِّقابُ خَوَاضِعُ

They conquered tyrants, so necks are severed

By their swords or else necks are surrendered.

وسَرَوْا إِلَى داعِي الهَوى فَمُصدِّقٌ

ومسابِقٌ ومُبادِرٌ ومُبايِعُ

They hastened to the caller of passion so there is one

Who believes, and races, and initiates, and pledges allegiance.

الناصِرِينَ الناصِحِينَ فما لَهُمْ

فِي غيرِ مَا يُرضِي الإلهَ مَوَازِعُ

The victorious, the advisers - they have no distraction

From what pleases God to turn them elsewhere.

مَا أُشْرِعَتْ فِي النَّاكِثِينَ رِماحُهُمْ

إِلّا وبابُ النَّصْرِ منها شارِعُ

Their spears are not unsheathed against violators

Except that the door of victory through them is opened.

وإِذا سُيُوفُهُمُ لَمَعْنَ لوقعَةٍ

جَلَلٍ فوجْهُ الفتحِ فِيهَا لامِعُ

And when their swords shine for an event,

Majestic - the face of opening through it blazing.

لم يَرفعُوا راياتِهِمْ إِلّا عَلَتْ

والحق مرفوعٌ بِهِنَّ ورافِعُ

They do not raise their banners except exalted,

And truth is raised through them, raising.

فالدينُ أَعلامٌ لَهُم ومعالِمٌ

والكفرُ أَشلاءٌ لَهُمْ ومصارِعُ

Religion is their flags and landmarks,

While disbelief their fallen and overthrown.

أَبَني منادٍ إِنْ تُنادُوْا للنَّدى

أَوْ للطِّعانِ فمُسْرِعٌ ومُسارِعُ

O sons of a caller, if you call to reproach

Or blame, hastening and rushing.

أَو تَغْضَبُوا فَمعارِكٌ ومَهالِكٌ

أَوْ تَرْتَضُوا فقَطائِعٌ وصَنائِعُ

Or you rage - so places of death and destruction,

Or you reconcile - so fortunes smile.

أَو تَرْكَبُوا فمناظِرٌ ومَخابِرٌ

أَوْ تنزِلوا فَمشاهِدٌ ومَجامِعُ

Or you ride - so visions and communications,

Or you descend - so witnesses and gatherings.

الشَّامُ شامُكُمُ ومِصْرٌ مِصْرُكُمْ

والمَغْرِبانِ لَكُمْ حِمىً ومَرَاتِعُ

Greater Syria is your Syria, and Egypt your Egypt,

And the two Maghrebs are protected reserve land for you.

والمشرِقُ الأَعْلى أَبُو الحَكَمِ الَّذِي

نادَيتُمُ فالدَّهْرُ عَبْدٌ طائِعُ

And the Far East, the father of rulers,

Whom you called and so time is obedient.

أَصفى المُلُوكِ فَناصِرٌ أَوْ واصلٌ

وصَفا الأَنامُ فعائِذٌ أَوْ خاضِعُ

The choicest of kings - so victorious, or connecting,

And the elite of people - so protected, or surrendered.

لم يطلُعِ البدرُ المنيرُ ببلْدَةٍ

إِلّا لكُمْ فِيهَا هلالٌ طالِعُ

The shining full moon has not risen over any land

Except that a crescent belonging to you rises in it.

ولكُمْ بدارِ المُلْكِ من سَرَقُسْطَةٍ

قلَمٌ لأَقلامِ البَرِيَّةِ فارعُ

And you have in the abode of kingship, from Saragossa,

A pen surpassing the pens of the open wilderness.

بِمَفاخِرٍ من مُنْذِرٍ ومآثِرٍ

نُظِمَتْ بِمَنْطِقِهِ فَهُنَّ شوائِعُ

With prides from Al-Mundhir and glories

That are composed through his eloquence, so they are prevalent.

وبها لَهُ فِي المَغْرِبَيْنِ مغارِبٌ

ولِذِكْرِهِ فِي المَشْرِقَيْنِ مَطالِعُ

Through it he has in both Maghrebs places of sunset,

And for the mention of him in both Easts, places of sunrise.

سَكَنَتْ بِهَا الآفاقُ وَهْيَ غرائِبٌ

واسْتَأْنَسَتْ بالعِلْمِ وَهْيَ بَدَائِعُ

The horizons were settled through it, and they are wonders,

And became intimate through knowledge, and they are marvels.

فالجَوُّ من فحواهُ مِسكٌ فائِحٌ

والأَرْضُ من يُمْناهُ روضٌ يانِعُ

So the air is permeated with its implied musk,

And the earth smiles at its prosperity, flourishing.

من بعدِما وَلَدَتْهُ مِنْ صِنْهاجَةٍ

شِيَمٌ إِلَى مَلِكِ المُلُوكِ شَوافِعُ

After the virtuous nature born in him from Banu Sinhaja,

Values leading to the King of Kings, interceding.

ومناقِبٌ ومناصبٌ وضرائبٌ

وصوائِبٌ وثواقبٌ ولَوَامِعُ

And merits, positions, taxes,

Correctnesses, pieties, and bright splendours.

فبِها يُسَابِقُ نحوها ويُشَايِعُ

وبها إِلَى يُمْنى يَدَيْهِ يُنازِعُ

Through them he competes, hastening toward it and agreeing,

Through them to the right hand side contending.

إِنْ تُشْرِقِ الدنيا ببارِعِ ذِكْرِهِ

فَمَحَلُّهُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ يَحْيى بارِعُ

If the world shines with the magnificent mention of him,

Then his position with the son of Yahya is magnificent.

مُسْتَودَعاً لكُمُ مَليكاً نَفْسُهُ

وحياتُهُ فِي راحَتَيْهِ وَدَائِعُ

His soul a trusted repository for you, reigning itself,

And his life in its comforts is entrusted.

فاسْعَدْ أَبا مَسعُودَ بالهِمَمِ الَّتِي

عَلِيَتْ فَهُنَّ إِلَى النُّجومِ نَوَازِعُ

So make Abu Masoud happy with the aspirations

That are lofty - they are to the stars, climbing.

إِن كَانَ سَيْبُكَ للحقوقِ مُؤَدِّياً

فينا فسيفُكَ للحقائقِ مانِعُ

If your sword rights wrongs, defending,

Then our sword rights facts, preventing.

بحقائِقٍ تَجْلُو الخطوبُ كَأَنَّما

رَيْبُ الزَّمانِ لَهَا كَمِيٌّ دارِعُ

With facts that disasters are revealed as though

The doubts of time against them are feeble and repelled.

ومواهِبٍ فيما حَويْتَ كَأَنَّها

فِيمَنْ غَزَوْتَ مَلاحِمٌ وَوَقائِعُ

And gifts - in what you have contained it is as though they are

Among those you've conquered, battles and events.

وعَلَيْكَ من نفسِي سلامٌ طَيِّبٌ

مُتَرادِفٌ مُتَواصِلٌ مُتتابِعُ

And upon you from myself is a good and pure greeting,

Successive, connecting, following.

الغادِياتُ بِهِ إِلَيْكَ نَوَافِحٌ

والطارِقاتُ بِهِ عَلَيْكَ ضوائِعُ

Those that leave with it to you contend,

And those that come with it upon you get lost.
