هو البدرُ فِي فَلَكِ المَجْدِ دارا

فما غَسَقَ الخطبُ إِلّا أَنارَا

He is the full moon in the sky of glory revolving,

So the horizons glowed only when he shone.

تَجَلَّى لَنَا فَأرَتْنَا السُّعودُ

غُيُوبَ المُنى فِي سناهُ جِهارا

He appeared to us, so we saw good fortune,

The hopes that were concealed were openly manifested through him.

وأَوْفَى فكادَتْ صَوَادِي القُلوبِ

تفوتُ العُيونَ إِلَيْهِ بِدارا

He fulfilled that we almost lost our eyes

Yearning for him, competing in love for him.

وحَلَّ فَحَلَّتْ جِسامُ الفُتُو

حِ تَبْأَى اخْتِيالاً وتُزْهى افْتِخارا

The bodies of young men were adorned with courage

Scornful of being delicate, boasting of being daring.

وحَقَّ لَهُ اليومَ رِقُّ الكرا

مِ طَوْعاً ورِقُّ العُداةِ اقْتِسارا

The necks of his enemies today bow to him willingly,

And the necks of the foes are bent in humiliation.

فَيا رُبَّ غايَةِ مَجْدٍ شَأَوْتَ

إِلَى فَخْرِها مُعْجِزاً أَنْ تُجارى

O Lord of the highest glory you have desired

To your superiority a miracle challenging it.

ومن يَسْمُ فِي ذِرْوَتَيْ حِمْيَرٍ

ويَحْتَلَّ من يَمَنِ المُلْكِ دارا

Whoever climbs on the ridge of two valleys

And settles himself in the right hand side of the kingdom

يُنازِعْ إِلَى شِبْهِ ذَاكَ السَّناءِ

وتَنْحُ مساعِيهِ ذَاكَ النِّجارا

Seeks to emulate the rank of that glory

But his efforts fall short of achieving that carpentry.

وحَسْبُ الخليفةِ إِيثارُهُ

لكُمْ دونَ هَذَا الأَنامِ اقْتِصارا

It suffices the Caliph to prefer for you

Over the people of this time humility.

تَنَقَّاكُمَا عامِرِيَّيْنِ قاما

بأَعبائِهِ فاسْتَجَدَّا الفَخارا

You both have been granted long lives by Him

To carry His responsibilities, so excel in your glory.

فلَمْ يَأْلُ بحبوحَةَ الملكِ حَظّاً

ولا ادَّخَرَ المسلمينَ اختيارا

For the abundance of the kingdom he has never been greedy

Nor did he hoard the choice of Muslims for himself.

رمى بكَ بَحرَ الأَعادِي وأَدْنى

من المُلْكِ حاجِبَهُ مُسْتَشارا

He cast you into the sea of enemies and brought you near,

From the kingdom, as his counsellor.

فكانَ الحسامَ وكُنْتَ السِّنانَ

وَكَانَ الشِّعارَ وكنتَ الدِّثارا

So you were the sword and he was the bow

And the slogan was him and the shield were you.

ولأْلأَ منهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ نُوراً

وأَضْرَمَ منكَ عَلَى الشِّرْكِ نارا

From it he shed light on the religion

And from you a fire ignited against polytheism.

فأَوْلَيْتَ نُعْماهُ فِي اللهِ عَزْماً

ترى النَّصْرَ يَقْدُمُهُ حَيْثُ سارا

You devoted his blessings in God determination

You see victory walking wherever he walked.

فصُنْتَ العُلا وأَبَحْتَ النَّدى

وحُطْتَ الهُدى وحميتَ الذِّمارا

So you protected the high ground and you harvested the meadows

And you lowered the guide and protected the flock.

فأَصبحَ سيفُكَ للدينِ حِصْناً

وأَمسى سِنانُكَ لِلْثَّغْرِ جارا

Thus your sword became a fortress for the religion

And your blade a neighbour for the land.

وَفِي شَنْتِ ياقُبَ أَوْرَدْتَها

شوارِبَ يَبْغِينَ فِي البحرِ ثارا

And in Shant you reddened it

With drinks that desired revenge in the sea.

فسِرْتَ هِلالاً تُبارِي الهِلالَ

إِلَيْها وبَحْراً يخوضُ البِحارا

You sailed like a crescent challenging the crescent

To it, and a sea wading the seas.

وشمساً تَطَلَّعُ بالمَغْرِبَيْنِ

بحيثُ تُوافِي ذُكاءُ الغُبارا

And a sun that rises over the west

Wherever the brilliance of dust shines.

فما رِمْتَ حَتَّى عَلَتْ جانِباها

بأَيدِي المَذَاكِي عَجاجاً مُثارا

You had not shot except you hit its flanks

With the hands of the flickers stirred up flying.

تهُبُّ بِهَا فِي الهواءِ الرِّيا

حُ إِمَّا دُخاناً وإِما غُبارا

Swaying through the vacant air

Either smoke or dust.

وَلَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ ياقُبٌ نَصْرَها

ولا دَفَعَ الخَسْفَ عنهُ انْتِصارا

And Shant could not help it

Nor could victory avert its fate.

لَئِنْ غَوَّرَتْ فِي شَغافِ الشّمالِ

لقد أَنْجَدَ الفَتْحُ مِنْها وغَارا

If it hid in the caves of the North

Victory sprang from it and caverns.

وأَخْلَفَ بِرمُنْدَ منها الرَّجاءُ

وَمَا زادَهُ الشِّرْكُ إِلّا تَبارا

And hope betrayed it

While polytheism only increased its burdens.

أَطَرْتَ إِلَى ناظِرَيْهِ عَجاجاً

تركتَ بِهِ عَقْلَهُ مُسْتَطارا

You have startled his eyes with bewilderment

Leaving his mind dumbfounded.

فما يعرفُ العَهْدَ إِلّا امْتِراءً

ولا يُوقِنُ العهدَ إِلّا ادِّكارا

Who does not know the covenant except subterfuge

And does not believe the covenant except for treason.

ولما ادَّرَعْتَ إِلَيْهِ اليَقِي

نَ لَمْ يَدَّرِعْ منكَ إِلّا الفِرارا

And when you armed yourself with certainty of faith

It did not arm itself against you except with fleeing.

وشامَ غِرَارَيْ حُسامِ المنايا

فما يَطْعَمُ النَّوْمَ إِلّا غرارا

And the thirst of death's swords has been quenched

So it cannot taste sleep except fleeing.

ولَنْيُوشُ أَمْطَرْتَها صائباتٍ

تُصِيبُ النفوسَ وتَعْفو الدِّيارا

And the spears you rained on it vehemently

Struck souls and spared homes.

هَزَزْتَ إِلَيْها رِماحاً طِوالاً

تُصَيِّرُ أَعمارَ قومٍ قِصارا

You shook at it long spears

Shortening the lifespans of a people.

فغادَرْتَها فِي ضَمانِ الإِلهِ

ويَمَّمْتَ أعلى وأَنْأَى مَزَارا

You left it to God's safekeeping

And headed for the Highest and the Farthest Shrine.

وَقَدْ يَفْرِسُ الليثُ أَرْوى الهِضابِ

ويُهْمِلُ حَرْشَ الضِّبابِ احْتِقارا

The lion may disdain the high plateaus

And dismiss the caves contemptuously.

وخَلَّفْتَ فِيهَا مُبِيدَ الضَّلالِ

يُقَرِّبُها لَكَ ثوباً مُعَارا

And you left in it the eradicator of misguidance

To repatriate it to you in borrowed attire.

يُكَفكِفُ أَدْمُعَ عَيْنٍ سِجاماً

ويُبْرِدُ أَحشاءَ صَدْرٍ حِرَارا

To dry a shedding tear

And cool a burning breast.

فَإِنْ أَخْطَأَتْهُ كُؤوسُ المنايا

لقد خَلَّدَتْ فِي حَشاهُ خُمارا

And if the cups of death missed him

It made his body immortal with wine.

وعمَّ بِهَا فتحُكَ الأَرضَ نُوراً

كَمَا ذَرَّتِ الشمسُ فِيهَا النَّهارا

Your conquest has illuminated it with light

As the sun illuminated it with daylight.

فَعَرِّجْ عَلَى الحَجِّ بالمسلمينَ

بِعُقْبِ اصْطِلامِكَ حَجَّ النَّصارى

So visit the pilgrimage with the Muslims

After your pilgrimage with the Christians.

فقد نَشَرَتْ مِصْرُ والقيروانُ

ومَدَّتْ عيونُ الحجازِ انْتِظارا

For Egypt, Tunisia and the Hejaz have opened their eyes

Awaiting your arrival longingly.
