Had it not been for the memory of you, my friends and protector
My eyelids would not have been inundated by tears, nor would I have grieved
Wherever you turned, you saw a meadow overflowing
With the shore of a lake like the galaxy and the sky
O people of the beloved land of Syria, greetings
From an emigrant who has nothing left but his blood
And if God watered the countries, He did not water
The land of India except with lightning and blood
The passing nights have changed all my states
And my passion and love for you are still the same
And my complaint of the absence of the noble one, for he
Had been a protector for me from the injustice of days
My pact with the fangs of tribulations in his view
As a shield and the claws of events trimmed
How many times did the course of fate extend its palm towards me
To darkness, so he turned it away from me, disabled
And he winked at me with his eye, so I did not
Lower it except that blindness was in its pupil
And I have often smelled the cloud and its palm
So they poured, and I did not know which was the sky
