1. سَرى وَاللَيلُ مُزوَرُّ الجُنوبِ

    وَقَد دَنتِ الثُرَيّا لِلغُروبِ

    The night traveled, deceiving the south

    And the Pleiades approached sunset

  2. وَمَدَّت كَفَّها الجَذما قَليلاً

    كَمَن يَرجو مُصافَحَةَ الحَبيبِ

    She stretched out her palm a little

    Like one hoping to greet a beloved

  3. كَأَنَّ النسرَ حينَ رَأَى وُرودَ ال

    نَعائِمِ طارَ عَن كَفِّ الخَضيبِ

    As if when the eagle saw the roses

    Of softness, he flew from the bleeding palm

  4. وَيَتلو أَرنَبَ الجَبّارِ كَلبٌ

    تَراهُ قَد تَهَيَّأَ لِلوُثوبِ

    And a ferocious rabbit is followed by a dog

    You can see it getting ready to pounce

  5. شَحافاهُ عَنِ الِشعرى فَلاحَت

    كَمِصباحٍ تَأَلَّقَ في قَليبِ

    Baring its teeth, it shone

    Like a lamp flickering in its niche

  6. وَلِلعُلجومِ في الأُفقِ اِرتِعادُ الـ

    ـجبانِ مَخافَةَ الحوتِ الجَنوبي

    And whales in the horizon, shaking

    From fear of the southern whale

  7. وَأَبدَت فَنطَساً في النَهرِ يَطفو

    يَمين الشَرقِ في شَكلٍ عَجيبِ

    It showed its tail in the river, floating

    To the right of the east in a strange form

  8. وَباتَ الذِئبُ وَالظبياتُ تَرعى

    مَعَ الدبينِ في رَوضٍ خَصيبِ

    And the wolf and gazelles grazed

    With bears in a fertile meadow
