أَتَيتُ فَما حَظيتُ لِسوءِ بَختي
بِخِدمَةِ سَيِّدي وَرَجعتُ خائِب
I came, but through ill fortune was denied
the honor of serving my master, and returned disappointed.
إِمامٌ ما تَيَمَّمناهُ إِلّا
رَجعنا بِالرَغائِبِ وَالغَرائِب
A leader—never have we sought him without
returning with coveted gifts and rare wonders.
