وَسائِرَة في اللَيلِ لا تَعرِفُ الكَرى
تُحَمَّلُ أَعباءً ثِقالاً فَتَصبِرُ
Wandering in the night not knowing the towns
Bearing heavy burdens, she shows patience
أُتيحَ لَها عَلجٌ عَنيفٌ فَبَزَّها
مَلابِسَها مُستَأجَرٌ لا يُقَصِّرُ
She was allowed harsh treatment, so she endured
Her clothes are rented, not failing her
وَأَلبَسَها ثَوباً مِنَ الوَشيِ رائِعاً
وَلَيسَ لَها عَقلٌ فَتُثني وَتَشكُرُ
He dressed her in a splendid garment of calico
She has no mind to thank and appreciate
فَمَن سَرَّهُ تَأنيثُها أَنَّثَ اِسمَها
وَمَن سَرَّهُ التَذكيرُ فَهوَ مُذَكّرُ
Whoever enjoys her femininity feminizes her name
And whoever enjoys masculinity masculinizes it
