غَياثٌ وَعَمروٌ فَاِسمَعوا ما عَلِمتُهُ
لِشَيخَينِ عِندي مِن حَديثِهِما شانُ
Ghiyāth and ʿAmr—listen, then, to what the two of them taught
to two shaykhs; in my eyes, their tale is no small matter.
غَياثٌ نَفى عَن نَفسِهِ الحَدَّ في الزِنى
وَعَمروٌ بِتَوقيعِ الخَليفَةِ قَرنانُ
Ghiyāth ruled the prescribed penalty for adultery inapplicable to himself,
while ʿAmr, by the caliph’s signed decree, is a cuckold.
