يا أَيُّها الصاحِبُ الصَدرُ الَّذي شَهِدَت
بِفَضلِهِ وَنَداهُ البَدوُ وَالحَضَرُ
O generous friend, whose excellence and nobility
Are known to nomad and townsman alike,
عَساكَ تَقبَلُ شَيئاً قَد بَعَثتُ بِهِ
نَزراً فَإِنّي إِلى عَلياكَ أَعتَذِرُ
May you accept this meager gift I've sent -
I can but humbly apologize that it's not as grand as you.
وَلَو بَعَثتُ عَلى مِقدارِ فَضلِكَ أَر
سَلتُ الكَواكِبَ فيها الشَمسُ وَالقَمَرُ
Had I gifts equal to your merit to impart,
I'd send a caravan of stars, with sun and moon as vanguard.
