أَيا عالِماً فاقَ الأَنامَ بِعِلمِهِ

وَأَبدى خَفِيّاتِ الرُموزِ بِفهمِهِ

O scholar, surpassing people with his knowledge,

Revealing the hidden meanings of symbols with his understanding,

أَبِن لِيَ ما اسمٌ لَيتَ لي يُمنَ مَن بِهِ

تَسَمّى وَلَو يَوماً مِنَ الدَهرِ بِاسمِهِ

Tell me, what is a name I wish I could be named, even for a day, after him

By transposing your second letter and omitting your third,

بِتَصحيفِكَ الثاني وَحَذفِكَ ثالِثاً

يَصيرُ حَيّاً يُحيي البِلادَ بِسِجمِهِ

It becomes alive, bringing the country to life with its body,

If you omit the letter that is first,

فَإِن تَحذِفِ الحَرفَ الَّذي هُوَ أَوَّلٌ

تُصادِف لَهُ عِشرينَ شبهاً بِجِسمِهِ

You will find twenty likenesses to its body.
