1. لا غَروَ أَن أَصبَحَ المُؤَيَّدُ بَيـ

    ـنَ الناسِ صَبّاً مُوَلَّهاً بِعُمَر

    It is no wonder that Al-Mu'ayyad has become

    Among the people morning rain poured generously by Omar

  2. سلمانُ بَيتِ العَميدِ يَعذُرُ في الـ

    ـسوءِ وَإِن أَحسَنوا إِلَيهِ شَكَر

    Salman of the Emir's house excuses their evil

    And if they are good to him, he is thankful

  3. مَآرِبُ الكُلِّ فيهِ فَهوَ عَصا

    موسى لِكُلٍّ مِنهُم إِلَيهِ وَطَر

    The concerns of all are focused on him, so he is

    Moses’ staff for each of them, their only recourse

  4. مَآرِبُ الكُلِّ فيهِ تُبصِرُهُم

    إِلى لقاهُ في حُرقَةٍ وَضَجَر

    The concerns of all let them see

    Meeting him in burning anguish and frustration

  5. يُصبِحُ تَحتَ الرِجالِ مُفتَرشاً

    أُنثى وَيُمسي فَوقَ النِساءِ ذَكَر

    He awakes under men as a

    Woman, and sleeps above women as a man

  6. كَم حَمَّلوهُ مِن ثِقَلِ عِبئِهِمُ

    رَزِيَّةً مُشمخرَّةً فَصَبَر

    How many burdens they loaded on him

    As provender - so he was patient

  7. وَهوَ فَتيقُ العِجانِ مُنخَرِقُ المُبـ

    ـعرِ ما فيهِ لِلمَنيِ مَقَر

    He is pliant of limb, perforated of nose

    In him there is no place for incontinence

  8. وَهوَ مَتى عَلَّهُ رِجالهُمُ

    أَنهَلَ مِنهُ نِساؤُهُم وَصَدَر

    And when his men weaken him

    Their women draw from him and are sated
