Ah, pity him! For his bereavement

of one son torments him sorely—what, then, of two?

ما أنصفتْهُ الحادثاتُ رَمَيْنَهُ

ما أنصفتْهُ الحادثاتُ رَمَيْنَهُ

بمودَّعَيْنِ ومالهُ قلبانِ

بمودَّعَيْنِ ومالهُ قلبانِ

The calamities dealt unfairly with him: they struck him

with two departing sons, though he has not two hearts.
