شاعرٌ باهرٌ بديعُ المعاني
فهْوَ يزري على بديعِ الزمانِ
A dazzling poet, ingenious in his meanings—
A poet, dazzling, a marvel of meanings —
so he puts Badīʿ al-Zamān in the shade.
so he puts to shame the Marvel of the Age:
برضابٍ عنِ المبرِّدِ يروي
ونهودٍ تروي عنِ الرمّانِ
With lips’ nectar he transmits from al-Mubarrad,
with cool sweet saliva that narrates from al-Mubarrad, the Chilled,
while budding breasts transmit from the pomegranate.
and breasts that narrate from al-Rummān, the Pomegranate.
