1. O Lord, by the guiding Prophet, the Chosen One,

turn the swords of pestilence away from Islam.

  2. O Lord, its grievous torment is lamented

to none but You, for it has struck fear and terror.

  3. How many a land has it entered, scattering the unity of those

within it, until they find no escape from it.

  4. O Lord, show mercy to Your servants, for they have

no Lord but You to shield them from this dire ordeal.

  5. We confess our sins; still, stand by us,

rebellious wrongdoers who have merited punishment.

  6. If none may place his hope in You except the virtuous,

then who in all creation will shelter the sinner?

  7. O Lord, we implore You to spare us a calamity

more dreadful than grave illness, and harder to bear.

  8. Whenever a person sees blood in his mouth,

he despairs of life, and even his nearest kin flee him.

  9. His friends avoid him, fearful

of coming near; the companions of his youth forsake him.

  10. He becomes sick, unvisited; whoever draws near

him can almost see all-conquering death.

  11. He stands alone though his family are many—

a thing that has confounded minds and turned hair gray.

  12. We seek intercession with You through Ahmad,

the highest of creation in rank, the loftiest in station,

  13. that You swiftly lift the plague from us,

make us whole from its evil, and spare us,

  14. and restore the blessings to which You accustomed us:

You have accustomed us to abundant goodness from You.

  15. Then blessings be upon the Prophet and his family,

and his Companions, and the radiant People of the Mantle.
