أُناسٌ ما استطعتُ لهم سلُوّاً

ولا عتباً وليتنيَ استطعتُ

A people whom I could never bring myself to forget,

nor to reproach—if only I could.

أكاتبهمُ وأعرضُ عَنْ أذاهم

أكاتبهمُ وأعرضُ عَنْ أذاهم

كأني ما رأيتُ ولا سمعتُ

كأني ما رأيتُ ولا سمعتُ

I correspond with them and overlook the hurt they cause,

as though I had neither seen nor heard.
