ودَّعْتُها ويدي اليمينُ لأدمعي
ويدي اليسارُ لضمَّةٍ وعناقِ
I bade her farewell—my right hand given to my tears,
my left to your embrace and mine.
قالت أما تخشى الفضيحةَ قلت لا
يومُ الوداعِ فضيحةُ العشّاقِ
She said, “Do you not fear the scandal?” I said, “No—
the day of farewell is the lovers’ scandal.”
