قالَ لها الشيخُ واصليني

قالتْ أقلني الوصال للهْ

The sheikh said to her, “Grant me union.”

She said, “Spare me this union, for God’s sake!

ما يطلعُ البدرُ في نهارٍ

وطاقتي ما تحبُّ شلهْ

The full moon does not rise by day,

and my vigor has no love for frailty.”

تبسَّمتْ لي وقالتْ

جرِّبْ وصالي سُوَيْعَهْ

She smiled at me and said,

“Try union with me for one little hour.”

فقلتْ كيفَ فقالتْ

سُتَيْتَةٌ بسُبَيْعَهْ

So I said, “How?” She said,

“A little six with a little seven.”
