ما طلبْنا الخمولَ جهلاً ولكنْ

ذاكَ عن خبرةٍ وعنْ تجريبِ

We did not seek out idleness through ignorance, but rather

That was from experience and from experimentation

لو أمنَّا الزحامَ فيه لكُنَّا

نشتهيهِ لصاحبٍ وحبيبِ

If we believed the crowds in it, we would have

Wished it upon a friend and a beloved
