قولوا لمنْ يفخرُ بالعظمِ

الفخرُ بالعلمِ وبالحلمِ

Tell those who boast of ancestry

Boasting of knowledge and wisdom is best

إذا علا قدري عن والدي

بزعمكُمْ دلَّ على عزمي

If my worth has surpassed my father's

By your claim, it shows my resolve

يا رحمةَ الرحمنِ أُمِّي أبي

واللهِ ما كانَ أبي أُمِّي

O mercy of the Merciful, my mother and father

By Allah, my father was not my mother

هذا وبالصدِّيقِ لي نسبةٌ

ووصلةٌ تُعرف كالنجمِ

I have lineage to the truthful one

A connection known like the stars

أعددْتُها للحشْرِ ذخراً ولا

أبغي بها فخراً على خصمي

I prepared it for the Gathering as provision, not

To boast over my opponent

يا ثانيَ المختارِ في غارِهِ

وقبرهِ الزاكي وفي الحكمِ

O second of the Chosen One in his cave

And his blessed grave and in wisdom

لا تُخْلِني مِنْ لحظاتٍ فلي

أعداءُ سوءٍ يكرهون اسمي

Do not deprive me of glances, so my

Evil enemies may hate my name

ذنبي إليهمْ أنني عالمٌ

وفارسٌ في النثرِ والنظمِ

My sin to them is that I am a scholar

And a knight in prose and verse

وإن ذكري شائعٌ ذائعٌ

وذكرُهُم أخفى منَ الوهمِ

And my fame spreads

While theirs is obscurer than fantasy

من كل مَنْ يعلمُ فضلي وقدْ

أضلَّهُ اللهُ على علمِ

Of all who know my merit, and God

Has led astray despite knowledge
