يا منْ لهُ بينَ الورى رتبةٌ
معروفةٌ توهم بكيسهِ
O you whose rank among men is known,
Who is thought wise because of his insight,
مثِّلْ لنا أمرَ امرئٍ حاضر
بأنهُ مشتغل بضرسهِ
Portray for us the state of one present
As busied with his toothache!
