مرَّتْ نساءٌ كالظبا خلفَها

أدهمُ يحميها منَ الكيدِ

Women passed by like gazelles behind her

Dark-skinned protecting her from harm

قالوا لِمَا تصلحُ قلتُ الظبا

للصيدِ والأدهمُ للقيدِ

They asked "Why bring them together?" I said "The gazelle

Is for hunting, the dark one for tying."
