وفي بغدادَ أقوامٌ كرامٌ

ولكنْ بالسلام بلا طعامِ

In Baghdad there are generous people,

But with greetings, without food,

فما زادوا الصديقَ على سلامٍ

لهذا سُمِّيَتْ دارَ السلامِ

So they did not increase upon the friend anything but greetings,

For this it was called the Abode of Peace.
