1. ناديتُ دُمْلَجَها فديتُكَ دُمْلَجاً

    لا تجرحنَّ يداً لها عندي يدُ

    I called out to her who was wrapped in darkness, I would give my life for you, oh shrouded one,

    Do not wound a hand that is dear to me,

  2. فأجابني أنا دُملجٌ ذو غلظةٍ

    إني أرقُّ لها وقلبي جلمدُ

    He replied to me, I am rough darkness,

    Though for her I am tender, my heart is frozen stone
